Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / Re: James Oxford died in Neath area bet. Jul–Sep 1965
« on: Wednesday 26 October 16 10:46 BST (UK)  »
Hi
See also my reply to your other message.
James was half-brother to my Thomas William Oxford.
His father was named Thomas William Oxford. His mother was Thomas's second wife, Sarah Brennan, the sister of his first wife - their parents were James Brennan and Sarah (maiden name Flinn) from Ballymoe, Galway in Ireland.
James was born in 1894 in Wolverhampton. He died on 09 Aug 1965 in Neath General Hospital, Neath, Glamorgan. He was buried in Goytre Cemetery alongside his half-brothers William and Thomas.
Regards
Fred

Pembrokeshire Lookup Requests / Re: Did Thomas William OXFORD die in Milford Haven?
« on: Wednesday 26 October 16 10:29 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Sorry for the delay in replying as I was abroad.
I have pretty much completed my Oxford family research including finding where the brothers lived, when they died and where they are buried.
I have a photo of the wedding of James & Martha which I am happy to send you if you can supply an email address.
I can also supply details of James's ancestors going back to a soldier in the Napoleonic wars. The family name was originally Hoxford and, probably, Hawkesford before that.
Regards
Fred

P.S. Thomas William OXFORD did not in fact die in Milford Haven.

Thanks Gill  :)

I am half-Dutch and speak the language fluently, so no problem there.

Haven't found any ancestors in Brabant though.

Cheers

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Looking for OXFORD family from Wolverhampton
« on: Tuesday 15 June 10 18:25 BST (UK)  »
Thank you very much; that is (part of) the right family alright. This confirms that they were still in the fairground business in 1901.

Now to find the main man – Thomas William Oxford born 1880 in Wolverhampton – who is still missing. Also his brothers William (b.1875) and Frederick (b.1887).

I actually found where Thomas W and his brothers William and James were buried, near Port Talbot. James had settled there after WW1 and his two older brothers, who were still on the road, used his home as their base.

Where the three brothers were and what they were doing from 1891 until WW1 is still a mystery.

Thanks again.   :)

Hi

Yes, he was single then and a groom working at Powis Castle. He married in London in 1912 and during WW1 was a Red Cross ambulance driver in France. He gave his address as Dragon Hotel Welshpool. His daughter Morva was born there in 1916. So it looks as if they lived there for at least 8-9 months in 1915-16.

Thanks

I am looking for information about the Dragon Hotel in Welshpool (not the one in Montgomery). In particular, who the owners were in 1915 – 1916. I am trying to establish if there is a family connection with Fred Bowen who gave that as his permanent address on his WW1 records. His daughter was also born there (in 1916).
Thank you

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Re: John WINSON at the Old Bailey
« on: Tuesday 16 March 10 07:33 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Ian

Yes, I tried that site and also the National Archives but no luck. Still, following your message I have revisited the Old Bailey site and found a contact address. I will contact them and see if they can shed light on our missing (but at least innocent) ancestor.

Thank you  :)

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / John WINSON at the Old Bailey
« on: Monday 15 March 10 12:22 GMT (UK)  »
John WINSON age 28 (could be 23 or 21) appeared at the Old Bailey on July 16th 1811, on trial for Larceny. Result: Acquitted.

I would like to find out more about the trial. Can anyone tell me how I can get hold of more detailed records, ideally online, please?

Many thanks
