Carol

Apologies for not replying sooner but I've not been around much over the weekend.

Thanks very much for all the info you've provided, particularly your detective work in finding Grandad on the 1901 UK census under BYRNE - I'd never have thought of looking under a similar name.   The jigsaw pieces are starting to fall into place  :D.

I suppose it's possible that the family moved to Liverpool soon after my Grandfather was born.  I recall something my mum said recently about my grandfather (her father). She recalls being told that he was very young when they got off the boat at Liverpool.  So it's feasible that by 1901 they were already living in Liverpool?

Have found this in the latest census available.

A Joseph Burns, a baker, aged 43yrs, wife Ellen aged 40yrs, both born Barnbrig, Co Down Ireland. It states they have been married 17years.
They have two sons, John 15yrs and Joseph 13yrs, both born Newry Co. Down.

Address
3 Squires St Egde Hill Liverpool

West Derby area.

I think that's him!!!

That info marries up with what little information I have....Joseph Burns (my great grandfather) married Ellen English and they had another son called John who was 2 or 3 years older than Joseph.

Thank you so much - my mum will be really pleased :)

Hopefully this will open up more information about my great grandparents.

BURNS, Joseph Francis
 Birkenhead
County:  Cheshire
1982
Sep qtr
Date of Birth:  15 January 1898
Volume No:  37
Page No:  0553

Thanks for the look up Sue.

According to his marriage certificate, his father's name was also Joseph and he was a Baker (journeyman).

I'm still at a loss as to why I can't find him on any census forms.

There isn't a death of a Joseph Patrick BURNS in 1982 that fits.

Where did he die,do you know who registered it,would they have known where he was born,as they do ask that question. But the info on a death cert is only as good as the informants knowledge of that person of course.

Carol

ADDED I've just noticed that you have asked about Joseph Patrick BURNS but the title of this thread is about Joseph Francis  ;D He married Elsie T Jones as plain Joseph Burns with no middle name at all  ::)

Carol - my apologies - you obviously spotted my *ahem* deliberate mistake!!  My Grandad's name was, of course, Joseph Francis Burns - I've no idea where the Patrick came from!!!  I've just been looking at his marriage certificate and it's interesting to note that he is simply Joseph Burns, as you say....no mention of Francis.  My mum was the one who told me his middle name was Francis.

Hi all - I'm having problems tracing a birth/baptism/census record for my Grandad, Joseph Patrick Burns.  From information given to me by my mum, he was born on 15/01/1898 and died on 13/09/1982.  He married Elsie Theresa Jones in Birkenhead in April 1923.  Mum isn't 100% sure where he was born - she always thought he was born in County Armagh but I've never been able to trace any record of him.

Is anyone able to shed any light on this or give me some pointers to help me locate him?

Any help would be much appreciated.
