Wow...Thank you all so far for your input..

According to the report in the New Zealand newspaper he lost all the money in a business venture..

What I would like to know is how he knew his fathers name..He was only about 3 years old when Lucinda died and secondly what happened to him after her death..The earliest record I can find for him is his marriage in 1874.

This is a real puzzle at the moment

I had a look at the 1851 and 1861 Census and notice that there is a record of Lucinda Bourne born 1845 in Bruges Belgium (British Subject)..

I am not too sure if it could be the same person as mentioned in the report in the London Gazette..

Still do not know what the connection would be

Afternoon and thanks for the reply..

Yes these reports do refer to him..I have searched records in Ireland also without success..
I think the second report can be misleading. It is a New Zealand newspaper and am sceptical on how accurate the report really is.

Enjoy your day

Good Day

I am very new into researching my family tree and would appreciate assistance in my search to find information regarding my Great-Grandfather Frederick Alfred Balfour.

The first reference I could trace of him is his marriage to Elizabeth Sarah Shepherd on 22 August 1874..Here his father is given as Alfred Balfour (Deceased)

I have been able to trace him in the England 1881, 1891 and 1901 Census.
During these years his birth year is given as 1854 and 1856 and birth place is Paris France (British Subject) in the 1881 and 1901 Census and as London City in the 1891 Census..

I cannot find any records referring to him before 1874 (his marriage) and cannot find any records referring to his father Alfred.

Please if anyone can give any advice I would appreciate it..I am really starting to believe that storks do deliver new borns.  :).

Greetings from South Africa
