Thank you Guy,

I wholeheartedly agree with all you've written.

My real question, however, was if Alfred Lockwood was Tom Lockwood Gilleard's father then how can this 4th cousin be from the Gilleard's line. Hurworth kindly explained that this cousin was likely to have the link though Mary Ann Lockwood/Gilleard/Fisher and her children with Philip B Gilleard (as there is only one Philip B(rittain) Gilleard) and he had no brothers.

I think I'm being a bit thick as I'm not understanding what you mean hurworth.

My dad and this cousin are 4th cousins and Gilleard is the common surname so their link must be somewhere around Philip Gilleard and Douglass Brittain surely?

Sorry if I'm being really dense! It doesn't take much to confuse me!

Thank you for your replies.

I'm just learning about gedmatch. I tried downloading my mums raw data but it kept giving me an error message. I'll try again this weekend.

All I *know* about Philip snr is that he was a fish merchant. Philip jnr met his wife, Mary Ann Fisher, in Yarmouth when he was traveling the coast of Norfolk buying fish to sell in Huddersfield.

I guess anything is possibly re Tom's father! ;-)

Thanks for your help

I'm not aware that he married Elizabeth King, I only know of his marriage to Douglass Brittain.

Hi there,

I don't have Tom's birth certificate in my possession, a family member is meant to be sending me a copy. I believe he was born too late to be Philip's son.
