Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Bacon Family from Petersfield ~1800
« on: Thursday 25 April 19 19:10 BST (UK)  »
One of my direct Ancestor lines links to a family from Petersfield.
Researching these boarder locations seems quite difficult because families and individuals keep jumping across the county boarder.

Thomas Bacon and wife Mary
with children
George      b. 1799
Mary         b. 1802
William      b. 1803
Lydia         b. 1804
Ann Maria   b. 1807   (direct ancester)
James        b.  1807

I have a record of the christenings.

I am keen to research two things as follows :-
1. The 1851 census has a Thomas Bacon born Petersfield 1797 so most probably he is an older child. Hence trying to track down his christening.

2. Also keen to track down the marriage of Thomas Bacon and Mary.
The Sussex marriage index has no likely candidates hence probably married in Hampshire

Rob

Have just seen this post.  would really like to talk to you about Alfred S G Cooper's birth Certificate.
I have checked my database and have never resolved the parents of Alfred.

I do have that he most probably married Margorie Gray

I think only the full birth certificate will solve it or maybe his marriage in 1934  ;D

Many thanks for the lookups,  I think I will invest in some certificates.
My Mother told me that she visited as a young girl some cousins that lived towards Brighton,  they had a laundry business but could not remember who they where.

I have inherited a birth certificate for an unknown blood line and am currently trying to tie it into my database,  found in my mothers estate so must be somehow related, perhaps an illegitimate blood line kept secret.

Hence I am trying to trace the parents of Alfred S G Cooper birth registered in Sep 1912 e.preston with mothers surname Jones.

Sussex Lookup Requests / Thomas and Jane HOTSTON in Ford
« on: Monday 27 May 13 19:40 BST (UK)  »
One of my direct ancestors traces back through the Hotston's (various spellings) in Binsted.

But there is another large HOTSTON family quite close by in Ford.  I would like to try and find Thomas's parents or at least where he came from (I do have a spare Thomas of the correct age christened 1797 in Stoughton).

Thomas Hotston b. about 1798
Jane b. about 1802

A possible m. is 23/20/1823 in Portsea to Jane Viney (interestingly there are Viney's living close by in Climping who could be related to Jane)

To complicate things there are two christenings listed in Ford for George with parents Thomas and Jane with dates 03/03/1825 and 24/07/1825 hence amazingly there could be two Thomas and Jane families in Ford.

Also there is a christening listed for a Thomas to Thomas and Jane dated June 1824,  with birth date listed as March 1822,  hence birth would be earlier than possible marriage.

Many thanks for this data,  I have now managed to fit them in.  I also have another HOTSTON family to fit so will start another message thread.

Sussex Lookup Requests / Charles Hotson from Compton
« on: Thursday 23 May 13 00:18 BST (UK)  »
Having another go at my Hotston's (various spellings)

I came across while searching the 1881 census a Charles Hotston born about 1833 in Compton and his wife Harriet born 1840 Iping and I would like to try and fit him and his family into my database.

So the lookup request is for his parents,  most probably the easiest would be to look at the 1841 census where he is listed using the spelling HOTSON.

Foot note....
Back in 2005 I purchased the 1841 census images on some CD's from UK-Census.com but all 4 CD's no longer seem to work. They are burnable CDR's and I think the ink has faded with age :(

« on: Tuesday 26 June 12 20:22 BST (UK)  »
Just noticed the availability of the Sussex Criminals & Victims 1800 to 1825 of CD.

Are there any forum users who frequent these forums who have taken a look at the CD contents,  and if so was it of any help to there researches ??.

It claims to have 30,000 persons mentioned but only covers 25 years.

« on: Wednesday 14 September 11 13:06 BST (UK)  »
A lookup request please for the residence of :-

1 Dawsons Cottages, Plumstead

in the 1881 census.

I have a copy of a new paper article relating to a coroners inquest dated 1881 (I only have the year) and it states that the body was identified by Elizabeth Taylor and she lived at the above address.
