Thank you Sandra you have been very busy the information you have given me is very useful .Now all I need to do is connect this person to Robert Johnston born 1835 in Co Monaghan died 1888 in Carlisle married to Bridget Byrne  born 1837 in Leitrim Ireland died 1924 Glasgow who had 7 children I have traced Robert 1871 -1949 from Carlisle to Glasgow then to Liverpool in seaforth area where Hugh Robert and his family were living ,I know there is a connection as I have a DNA match with some one from this side of the family .Thanks again I will keep digging

Thanks for  pointers,  does any one know if there is a list of the graves (lairs) for the cemetary's that Falkyrn mentions that tells me also where they are located in the cemetary ? and if so where would I find it?

Hi Falkyrn thanks for your input, unfortunately I do not know her religion I assume she was protestant but not certain , I have not been able to locate her husband after 1881 census when the family were still all together in Carlisle.By  1891 census he is missing and they are living in 7 Scotia street Glasgow  by 1901 she was living with one of her daughters and son in law  in Dundee but then her death record gives 24 myrtle street in 1924  and the witness who is another daughter lives there until her death in 1942   I have been unable to find marriage cert  or birth record

Just a quick note to Gadget I live local to this area  and I think you will find the Queensferry you refer to is on the river Dee   Flintshire not the Mersey which would also make more sense  of travelling to Bala area in N wales

Hi Annie  thanks for your input Charles and Frederick were two of his sons He was living in  The railway cottages Tarhill in 1956 when he died   ,I am having a little difficulty finding these altho I think they may be off the A911   a short distance past Burleigh castle just on the left where the old railway line crossed the A911  as there is a place on an old map a short distance from there called Tarhill and the old map shows a building in the spot I mentioned .Thanks again for your input
  Cheers Sandy
