Cavan / McVeigh and Reilly, Belturbet, Cavan
« on: Tuesday 12 December 17 02:13 GMT (UK)  »
My great aunt, Annie Reilly, born in Belturbet in 1893, married a Francis (Frank) McVeigh in 1919 in Belturbet. Frank was a widower and a tailor. I believe I found his death record in irishgenealogy.ie in 1945--a Frank McVeigh died in Belturbet, a tailor living on Holborn Hill.

But I don't have any other information about him or about Annie. I can't find an Annie McVeigh's death in Cavan on either irishgenealogy.ie or on findmypast. Unless I have missed something. As I know very little about my grandmother's siblings after she left Ireland for Canada in 1906, it would be great if I could find something out.

England / Re: An elusive Lewis
« on: Saturday 09 December 17 21:02 GMT (UK)  »
I know that this thread ended a long while ago but if you are interested, and didn't know, I came across a headstone for a "Margaret Whitaker, nee Lewis, born at Abergavenny 9th September 1856, died at Waterford 5th September 1927 whilst on tour with her husband in the musical comedy Balkan Princess." That was the inscription on the headstone in Johns Hill Cemetery, Waterford. I was curious about her as the inscription was unusual and found your thread. Hope you are still around and that it helps.

Armed Forces / Re: Royal Navy Records Greenwich Pensioner
« on: Tuesday 10 February 15 05:06 GMT (UK)  »
I hope this question isn't too broad. I have recently discovered, through the 1851 Scotland Census, that an ancestor of mine was a Greenwich Pensioner. I hadn't heard of this before. I Google'd the term and see that it means that this person had served in the Royal Navy at some point and so had a pension? Do you know how I could learn anything more? His name was William Sturrock, he was 82 in 1851, living in Dundee, Scotland. And that is the some total I know about him. Is there any advice as to how I could proceed on this, please and thank you??

Possibly--I was a lowly secretary at the time though  ;) Loved working at McGill; lived on University Avenue, walked everywhere. Such fun back then.

When were you at McGill? I worked as a secretary in the Psych Department from 1971-1974. Melzack & Milner. I actually attended Sir George/Concordia though. Loads of my classmates went to McGill.

Nope, changed the filename in iPhoto and it still won't let me do it. It's getting late here in Arizona.

China -- Holy Names High School. I had pals at Rosemont and went out with a guy from Dunton in the late 1960s though.

I keep trying to upload it but it says it's already been uploaded.
