My grandfather and his siblings were not with their parents in Wiltshire in 1911.
I eventually found them in Bedminster, Bristol all using their middle names as first names!

In every other census, BMD records etc., they used their "normal" first names.

That's not a Medal (Index) Card.
It's a page from the Regimental Roll.

Which column are you referring to?

Please bear in mind that adoption records are supposed to be private.
See: https://www.gov.uk/adoption-records

You may have to go through an Intermediary Agency.

The law changed in 1926/7, when legal adoptions came in.
Private adoptions were supposed to cease then.

There was a server problem with RootsChat yesterday?
Or rather with CloudFlare, I tried 3 times to reply to a post!
And others had the same problem; hence the number of duplicate posts.

The Lighter Side / Re: Myths debunked when doing family histroy.

I was helping an Austalian family with their Family History; they were visiting IoM.
The cottage we were looking for was, at some point, merged with another cottage to become a house!

Fortunately, the building(s) were on a main road, very close to a well known TT corner!.
And the grandfather used to work at a farm & house across the road.

Not easy to find, but obvious once I knew.

Family History Beginners Board / Re: Probate records

Probate doesn't depend on the place of death, but more on the legal jurisdiction of the assets of the deceased.
If the deceased owned property or shares in England or Wales, then probate would be in England or Wales.
If the property/shares were in Scotland, then scottish probate would apply.
Likewise NI, IOM, Jersey and Guernsey.

A few years ago, I did some research where the deceased lived on Isle of Man, but also had property in England. Probate was applied for in Manx courts as well as England.
