Chris Paton has added a further update. Apparently fuzzy matching and name variants were removed due to incorrect matching.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Occupation on 1921 census
« on: Friday 14 January 22 13:10 GMT (UK)  »
FindMyPast only gives the top-level description. For a more comprehensive description to need to use "A Dictionary of Occupation Terms" which was published by the Ministry of Labour to provide "a descriptive glossary of occupations" and was based on the 1921 census. It is available on CD from Amazon but an easier to use way is by using DOOT at http://doot.spub.co.uk/.

West Lothian (Linlithgowshire) / Re: Burials in Bathgate?
« on: Tuesday 30 November 21 18:37 GMT (UK)  »
I have the CDs from WLFHS. She is buried in the Johnston Section of Glasgow Road Cemetery. Name is given as Nisbit. There are no other burials in the grave. Glasgow Road Cemetery is in three parts Paulville the oldest lies to the south then Paulville (both are enclosed by walls) and to the west is the Extension which is the current cemetery. FindMyPast now hosts the transcriptions which are on the CDs. There are photographs of the headstones on BillionGraves (cemetery is referred to as Bathgate Cemetery) but there is no trace of one for Jane.

Although Bo'ness was in West Lothian due to local government reorganisation it is now in Falkirk Council area. Falkirk Council Archives are located in Callendar House.

In Alwyn James' book he describes an entry in the 1841 Census for Edinburgh where there was a large number of female servants and a husband and wife describing themselves as "fleshers" (butchers). The word "flesher had been crossed out and brothel keeper added in red.

Have had a look at the History of Armadale Association's publication "Armadale in Minutes" by Robert Kerr as it has a map showing some of the old place names. There is a Linton's Loan in East Main Street I would say it would have been at around 70 East Main Street. From 60 East Main Street was demolished around 1920 to make make way for the "1919" council housing.

There is a website with the Ordnance Survey revision points photographs of the Manchester area. I am not linking as the site as it is semi commercial - watermarked images are free. These photographs were taken by the OS in 1949/50. The photographs are held by Manchester Central Library.

As I said in an earlier post there doesn't seem to be a headstone on Billion Graves (most if not all the headstones are photographed). Glasgow Road Cemetery is in three parts Paulville the oldest; Johnston and "Extension". Johnston is facing you as you drive up from Glasgow Road and the grave is section T lair 127. I'm not sure about Johnston but the last time I visited Paulville the headstones had markers on the base showing the grave number (section/lair). Section T is the second along from the entrance in the centre.
