Devon Lookup Requests / Re: North Tawton Look ups

A James DOWNING married Joanna TOWNSEND on 30 Mar 1823 in North Tawton, both made their marks, witnesses Richard Vilven and John Ellis.
Would that be your couple?

And Edward DOWNEY, husbandman, married Mary MARWOOD on 14 Dec 1788 in North Tawton, both made their marks, witnesses Thomas Croote and James Rowe.

No, none of the other children had Burgess in their name. George and Mary's other children were:

Mary, born 10 May 1794, christened 23 Jan 1795 in Stroud
James, c.11 Feb 1798, George in Stroud
George, born 7 Oct 1800, christened 2 Nov 1800 in Stroud
Henry, c. 8 May 1805 in Stroud
Richard, c.14 Jul 1805 in Stroud
Sarah Herson, c. 5 Jun 1807 in Cheltenham
Edward Jordan, c. 13 Aug 1809 in Cheltenham
Emma, born about 1816.

I am descended through their second son George, he was my 4xgreat-grandfather.
Mary died in 1851 in Kensington, but I haven't found George Senior's death yet, or christening either.
I'm hoping to get to the Gloucestershire RO sometime later this year, it's just a case of finding the time...

Hi,

My Tomeys passed through Cheltenham on their way to London: George Tomey and Mary Burgess married sometime before 1794, and had 5 children in Stroud, Gloucs, and another 3 in Cheltenham.
I have always suspected that Frances was their daughter, but I've never found a christening to prove it. Have you had any luck?

Rutland Completed Look up Requests / Re: 1851 Morcott - John Cullingworth aged 8

Hi Culli,
Sorry for taking so long to reply - work has kept me away from my research for far too long.
If you haven't already found this info, I have William and Mary's marriage: the 4th quarter of 1847 - William Lambert and Mary Brown. Edward Brown died in the 1st quarter of 1847.
And in the 1841 census, William Lambert is living alone, while Edward and Mary Brown have a daughter Elizabeth aged 20, who in the 3rd quarter of 1847, married George Whitelaw.
So Elizabeth is a Brown, rather than a Lambert.
Hope that clears it up!
Regards,

Hi

I have John Cullingworth in 1851 if you don't already have it: the household is as follows:

William Lambert; Head; 54; Mar; Inn Keeper; born Morcott
Mary Lambert; Wife; 54; Mar; ; born Duddington, Northants
John Cullingworth; Grandson; 8; ; born Northamptonshire
George Whitelaw; Head; 23; Mar; Mason; born Brockesby, Lincs
Elisabeth Whitelaw; Wife; 31; Mar; born Morcott
Lambert Whitelaw; Son; 1; ; born Grimsby, Lincs

My interest in this family group is through William Lambert: his grandmother was Mary Williams. Elisabeth Whitelaw is his married daughter, and the only child I have for William and Mary.
In 1861 and 1871 George and Elisabeth Whitelaw have a nephew George Cullingworth living with them, presumably John's brother?

Could somebody please look for Daniel Williams, aged about 55, in Bisbrooke. Also Elizabeth Williams, his 82 year old widowed mother.
Thanks!
