Cumberland Lookup Requests / Re: Richard Fearon JACKSON m Mary STEEL(E)?
« on: Saturday 16 March 24 09:29 GMT (UK)  »
I do think those parents are likely, maddys52, as the father's name is given to the oldest son, albeit a common name!!

Thank you very much.

I did start looking at how to order certificates from the GRO https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/faq.asp
but got a bit lost with the choices.  Does ordering online, with the reference, and requesting "Online digital image view" mean that you get sent a link wherefrom you can download it yourself in PDF? And that is the cheapest option at only £2.50? If so that is easier and cheaper than I thought it might be.   ;)

I will have a look and re-read this thread, and perhaps take the plunge.  There is a first time for everything!

Thanks for that further confirmation about the passenger list.  I will need to wait until I can get to a library to see that but it totally makes sense.
And thanks for that marriage for Effie and Fred.
Will look for Fred's WW1 file.
Ada's birth date is on her death registration at least.

Yes I do have the will, thank you.
No I don't have the death certificate, or the marriage certificate yet.

Mabel
Noted. Thanks for the cross-checking.

Interesting about the ship's passage. Perhaps this is a subsequent one, as I had them emigrating:
11 May 1884, on the Aorangi, London, England to Canterbury, New Zealand as part of the Assisted Immigrant Scheme.

Mabel
Thanks for that tip off.  I will look for those births as an aside.

Hmmm....not sure what to make of the Hilda Lariena vs Ada Mary.

I had a note from a military file that Mary may have been born in Keswick.

Thanks for that maddys52.

I figured that 1 male to 3 females wasn't correct but didn't know how to see what might be on other pages.  Have bookmarked those 2 links.

Am holding off on the certificate for now, as the research is for someone else, but may need to get it to put me out of my misery - these folks are the last in a family tree to be identified. ::)

Hi folks

I found Richard in the England Wales Civil Register of Marriages 1837-1915.

Wigton, 10b, 679, 1st quarter, 1884

There are 3 women that appear on that register page.  One I have eliminated as the incorrect first name.

That leaves 2, that may or may not be the same person:
STEEL Mary or STEELE Mary.

I would like to confirm which is the correct surname spelling and if possible when she was born, and who her parents are please.

I have looked on Find My Past (Banns, England, 1884 | Cumberland Marriages, 1884), Ancestry, and British Newspaper Archive but nothing other than that Civil registration appears to show up and one article that suggests he was from Aspatria.

I am wondering if there are offline resources someone may have that would solve this 10-month mystery.

Thank you.

Just pinning these snippets on the EATHER family in case they help round something out or eliminate someone:

Red3, not directly Myra, but Kenneth looks likely to be the death registered in NSW in 1989 to a Samuel John, and Anne.  Have you seen this?

EATHER KENNETH STEWART 12572/1989 SAMUEL JOHN ANNE

Have you looked across the ditch for Myra?

Use PhpGedView and love it.

However from time to time I'd like to custom print (A3, A2, A1) a circle diagram with name, birth-death dates, (possibly location, occupations) etc for 5+ generations to give away as gifts to others; and I'd like a graphic that is a bit more flexible and scalable.

What recommendations would you have for an svg (or possibly a PDF/A) output, stand-alone, free programme that can run on multi-platform (Linux / Web server)?

I am not keen to upload snippets to third party websites online, and would like the option of choosing colours, details, generations, positioning, titles, etc myself.

Thanks
