Thank you so much Ciderdrinker  :D

I was hoping it was Levi! As you say, a little more imaginative with the first name.

Hi

Yes, I've seen those but wanted to disprove/prove parentage and I'm afraid I tend to take online trees without evidence with a large pinch of salt  ;D John and Nancy's Thomas was born Tipton whereas the 1881 census shows Thomas born in Dudley. Obviously we have all found mistakes in census returns but as I have a Thomas Jones born same time from Dudley and we have the Jones surname I need a little more proof. The online trees give either a John Jones or Levi Jones as Thomas's father.  Unfortunately I'm in the US at the moment and, as it's only a side twig, I don't want to get a cert.

Hello
I was hoping someone had access to the records of St Thomas Dudley and could find the name of Thomas's father on the marriage cert.
According to FamilySearch Thomas Jones married Elizabeth Harrison 14th February 1875 at St Thomas Dudley.

Thank you in advance  :)

Thanks Jane
Really useful advice and tips. Your examples of proven links also give me some idea of what the longest block could relate to.

Hello
I've recently completed a Family Tree DNA test using their 'Family Finder.' In my matches there is one where we have 63 shared centimorgans with a 42 long block at chromosome 5-this has placed the match as 2-4 cousin range.

The 42 block is by far the longest block I have. I have been able to find a ancestor link with a match where we shared 74 centimorgans with the longest block of 18 so 42 seems quite significant. unfortunately there is no family tree to compare and she would only give a few surnames via email. One of my grandfathers and a great grandmother was illegitimate so this could be an link.

Is it worth contacting her further with the illegitimate lines in mind or is a block of 42 not as impressive as I first thought?!

Thanks for reading my rambles  :)

Staffordshire / Re: Lunacy Patients Admission Registers on Ancestry
« on: Wednesday 19 April 17 15:09 BST (UK)  »
Just to say I recently found an ancestor in Burntwood Asylum. Stafford records office were very helpful. I found his name on the lunacy register and emailed the office asking about documentation. They were happy to email me with date of admission and (in my case) his death. They gave me the index to the records and when I booked an appointment they found out what I wanted and had it ready when I turned up :)
There was an admission book which gave basic info of name, age, address, why admitted and next of kin or person of contact. The patient book was my ancestor's case note-very interesting and worth a visit.

« on: Wednesday 19 April 17 12:15 BST (UK)  »
Hello, I was wondering if anyone could find the baptism of John Stallard who was born C1771 in Overbury? It's not on Ancestry, FindMyPast, FreeReg or Familysearch but may be on other sites I don't have access to. Thanks in advance

Tipperary / Re: Fogarty Family in Loughmore

Thanks for the added information- I'll look at that on FindMyPast. I'm on Ancestry too so it's been great to cross check info. To be honest, until the NLI Catholic Regs were released I knew very little before the Fogarty/Parkinson marriage in Liverpool-It's my husband's family line so I suppose I've been fairly relaxed about following it when I have brick walls on my own side ;) Still it's nice to follow Irish ancestry-my own ancestors have been English on all sides since (at least)the 1600s!
