Hi
I wondered if anyone can help.

I would appreciate the full details from parish records of the marriage between Thomas Lineham/Linehan to Mary Davies.  September Quarter 1913. Pontypridd.

(Their son Trevor Davies Lineham was also born in Pontypridd 1915)

Thank you

Thank you Andy

It seems that the 'Northfleet' falls between all the dates for the lists given on the National Archives website.

I originally found the Northfleet on TheShipslist.com - ShipWrecks, but it just gave a list of all deaths/survivors and ages.

I was hoping that there would have been more information on the original passenger list  - so that's why I wanted to know if the list would have been given to the departing port or taken onboard and handed in at the arriving port (in that case it may have gone down with the ship)

Thanks
Bekki

The Common Room / Sunken Ship Passenger Records
« on: Friday 13 April 12 23:16 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Can anyone tell me what happens to the actual passenger lists of a ship that sinks? Do they go down with the ship of do they stay ashore when the ship leaves port ?

A relative of mine was drowned on the 'Northfleet' on route to Tasmania in 1873, when the ship was sunk due to a collision off the south coast of England (Dungeness).    :'(

Nearly all passengers were lost including the Captain and most of the crew.  The passengers were civilian workers on their way from Gravesend in Kent, to build the new Tasmanian railway.

There are many reports on the Internet about the sinking of the Northfleet and lists of both survivors and those who died in the tragedy are available but show just names and ages - no address, family, marital status etc

My ancestor George Attryde aged 35 was listed as 'died'.  I would like to find out more about him as according to the 1871 census he was married to Ellen but with no children.  He was unmarried on 1861 census.

Ellen (surname not known as I can't find her marriage details) does not appear on the name list for the ship, so I guess she was not aboard.

So if the ships list goes down along with all the other records on board - how do they know who is on board? If the passenger lists stays ashore - where can I find it for the Northfleet ?   ???

Can anyone help please ?

Thanks Bekki

The Common Room / Re: Child Given Up For Adoption
« on: Wednesday 04 April 12 07:23 BST (UK)  »
Sorry, I am still confused.......

As the birth Mother was adopted herself (1910) would she have been required to put her birth name or adopted name on the child's certificate - considering it was before official adoption began ?

Also as I am doing this research in reverse............  would I be looking in the GRO for a certificate of the child under the birth Mother's name ? ........  if not and the GRO carries only the adopted name, how do I find that ?

Thanks

Hi

I have read lots of links/answers and replies to 'adoption' but cannot find the answer to my query.

A relative (now deceased) was adopted in 1910 by family members (her Aunt) - I cannot locate he birth certificate.

It is known that when she was a young woman she got pregnant and was sent away to Hastings to give birth and have the child adopted.  I guess this would have been after 1927

How do I find out about this child?  Would they have been registered in her Mother's name (if so which one - her original name or adopted name) or would they instantly have been registered in the adoptive parent's name.

Unfortunately there is no one left in the family of the generation to ask about this. It was very hush-hush at the time and although my relative went on to have a very long and happy marriage, she never had any more children

 :(

I would be grateful for any comments
Thanks

Quaker Family History / Re: Quaker Marriage

Thanks Stan
Does this mean that it was not a legal marriage ?
As there is a whole page of writing - who would have written/worded this ?
The 'wedding' took place in Denonshire House and there appear to be several witness names at the foot of the page (I cannot read them all)

Quaker Family History / Quaker Marriage

Hello
I have an image from a Quaker marriage register (RG6/496 Public Record Office).  It is a really long text and difficult to read. The date is June 1713.

Can anyone tell me if Quaker marriages had 'set text' they wrote in the register, or were they all worded differently.  It would save me having to try to decipher it all.

They are the only Quakers I can find in my family - so I have no experience on this subject

Thank you
Bekki
