Hi again, Andrew

Yes, thanks... I now know what oxters are, thanks to Geoff's anagram. :) We have the same saying here... with the word 'oxters' replaced, of course.

Ta for now, Donna

P.S. I think a dialect thread would be a dandy idea! ;)

OXTERS - an anagram of MIPSTAR

Many thanks Geoff! I've finally figured out your anagram and that it wasn't meant to spell 'ram spit'!   ;)

Andrew:

If you're interested in reading more Cumbrian dialect, please check the Whitehaven News next week.  My dear e-friend, Malcolm (from the April 2005 Rootschat Challenge) has written a letter to the paper about my family.  It includes a dialect story and poem written by my great-grandfather, Joseph Pattinson, in 1892.  (The one with the tattiepot mention.  :)) The editor has said that it might appear in the March 16th edition.

Happy day,
Donna

My dearest Anndra!

It's such a pleasure to 'read' you and I do love me some Cumbrian dialect! Thank you so much! I understand that you have been very busy down the road. Hmmm... 'oxters' might make me blush? ;)

I'm sorry that your mother is not so good. It's gonna take me a day or so to decipher the rest of your message... 'splether' and 'hunch-beean' are Greek to me. :)

Happily confuddled and thrilled with your attention,
Donna

Hi again Karen

I've finally received the Lang history book. The Heffernan family history is just a thumbnail sketch... exactly as the Village of Lang had emailed to you.

There is, however, two group pictures... one including Orland and one including both Blanche and Rowena. I'd love to send them to you if you'd like.

Also, there are these interesting words:
"About April 20th, 1906, Messers Cave and Heffernan went into partnership and were the leading carpenters and contractors for Lang."

Happy day to you,
Donna

What a great ending! Congratulations!  :)

Donna

P.S. I'm still gonna look at the Lang history book  ;)

Hi Karen

Just in case it might help... I have requested (via inter-library loan) the book "Lang Syne, A History of Lang, Saskatchewan"  by Lang Syne History Book Commitee (1980) ISBN: 0889252092

I'm certain that I'll find mention of your Heffernans + other names! It might take a week or so for me to receive.

Happy new year  :)
Donna
