Nottinghamshire / Re: John A Holdcroft Obituary 2009
« on: Tuesday 26 March 19 11:23 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to prove that John Abraham Holdcroft and John Abraham Isaac are one and the same person. Birth and death dates seem to match. I have found the marriage for John A Holdcroft to Christina Mary Fairgreve Mackay 1979 in Birmingham. The  son Jonathan mentioned in the obit has a small tree on Ancestry and My Heritage where he states his father is John Isaac and mother is Christine Fairgreve Mackay, but he uses the surname Holdcroft. I tried to contact him but he has no wish to communicate about the matter.
Regards,

Yes,  the link worked and it was the right one. Sadly no mention of his wife though.

Nottinghamshire / John A Holdcroft Obituary 2009

Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone  has access to the Nottingham Evening Post for 2nd December 2009 please. I'm looking for the obituary for John A Holdcroft who died 18 November 2009 and whose obituary was published on 2nd December. It appears to be too recent to be in the British Newspapers in FindMyPast.

Kind regards,
 Warrawillah in Sydney, Australia

Thanks so much Peter. I’m sure the Orkney War Memorial people will be thrilled. I appreciate your efforts.

Would it be possible to enhance this photo please as it's all we have?
James  Andrew Donaldson M.A. and Samuel Ritchie Donaldson B.Sc. M.A. 1912. Edinburgh University. Samuel died April 1918 in Flanders. He is remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial and also on one in his little home town of Orphir in Orkney. I would like to be able to send a copy of this photo to the  people collating the details of Orkney soldiers who died in the Great War.

Thank you for your time and effort,
Marie Donaldson in Sydney

Yes Willow. I think you're right. Thank you so much for all of your ideas and input.
PS Wasn't able to attend but should have graduated today with a Diploma in Family History from University of Tasmania. Not bad for a 70 year old in very poor health!
Regards,
Marie

Interesting marriage at Handsworth, but JOHN Bragg????? Now I am even more confused.

I am sure the convict is incorrect as there was no ex-convict Bragg listed in the SA convict docs (for free convicts settling there) and there was no wife called Hannah in SA either. Also, would a convict be a verger for all those years? Just a thought.

I'm fairly sure the SA death notice for Susanna Bragg in 1860 is correct as the (H) signifies husband I think. Also the refs to Mitcham are relevant as this is where James lived and worked.
