Hi, William Hester, the father (I believe) of your Mary Coney, is my 8x gr.grandfather.  Have you seen his will, listed at the OFHS website?  Mary Coney is mentioned in it.

Monmouthshire / Need help with registration district please?

Hi - I want to order a birth certificate for an ancestor, but there are several people with the same name at the same time, so I'm not sure which is the right one.  Here's what I know - in all censuses (except 1841 which doesn't really specify) his birthplace is listed as Tredegar.  In 1841 and 1851 he lived in Bedwellty.  He was born in either 1839 or 1840 (his age varies in the different censuses).  His older sister was born in 1834 in Blaina.
The certificate options I have are for: Crickhowell, Newport, or Abergavenny.  If he was born in Tredegar, or Bedwellty, which of those would be the one his birth would be registered in?
Thanks VERY much for any help!  (BTW, his name is Joseph Davies.)  Thank you!

Oxfordshire Lookup Requests / Woodstock fiche lookup, TURVEY, please?
« on: Monday 18 September 06 18:34 BST (UK)  »
Hi - many thanks for your kind offer of lookups!  I would like to request the following lookups, please?
1) Francis James Turvey, born 22 Aug. 1919.   I would like to know who his parents were, please?  (if that information is given)

2) My gr. grandparents both died in Woodstock but I don't know when.  If it isn't too difficult to search, could you please look for:

Edwin Turvey, born 1873, died after 1952? my mother remembered that he lived to be quite old but that's all she knew.  He was at her wedding so was alive in 52.
And his wife:  Mary Ellen (Nellie) Turvey - born 1888.  Was still alive in 1946 but after that I don't know.

Thank you VERY much for any help!

Hi - thanks for your offer of lookups in this source!  My gr.gr.grandparents died in Oxford and I'm hoping there will be an obituary for them.
1)  Charles Sammons - died in the Jan/Feb/March quarter of 1896 - death registered in Headington, Oxford.
2)  Emma Sammons - died in the Jul/Aug/September quarter of 1900 - death registered in Oxford.
They lived in Oxford (city) their whole lives.  Sorry I don't have more specific dates!  If any other information would be helpful let me know.
Many thanks for any help!

« on: Monday 18 September 06 18:06 BST (UK)  »
Hi - thanks for your kind offer of lookups in Breconshire newspapers.  I would like to request a lookup, please?
I have two people who died in Crickhowell, and am wondering if there would be obituaries or death notices for them?
1) Job Norris - died in the Jan/Feb/Mar quarter of 1908  (sorry I can't narrow it down any more than that).
2) Hannah Norris - died in the Apr/May/June quarter of 1905.
They lived in Breconshire most of their lives.
Many thanks for any help!

Hi Karren - you kindly looked this up for me awhile back.  I notice you said "some info is missing but can be obtained" etc.   What kind of info is it that is missing? (Mother's name, possibly?)   Many thanks -

Monmouthshire / French connection?
« on: Monday 18 September 06 17:11 BST (UK)  »
Hi - my Davies family - father Joseph, born 1806 in Tredegar, mother Ann b. abt 1803 in Newcastle, and several children (Elizabeth, John, Joseph, Gwenllian, Sarah)  lived in Bedwellty for several of the censuses - but two of the children (Elizabeth and John) were born in France in the late 1820's.
In looking at the censuses it looks like quite a few people from Monmouthshire were born in France around that time - late 1820's, early 1830's.
Does anyone have any idea why Welsh people would have been in France particularly at that time?
Any input appreciated - thanks!
Debbie
