Ireland / Re: Lax registration of death
« on: Sunday 14 October 18 20:38 BST (UK)  »
A Death was supposed to be registered within a year.If that time was exceeded permission had /has to be obtained from the General Registrar by means of a Statutory Declaration. This is noted on the Certificate. There may have been practical reasons for the non registration e.g the Registrar attended the local village/ town about once a week at a specified time. This was often 3-4 mls.which in most cases had to be walked. So not really user friendly.Family owned cars were very scarce in 1950s .Public transport was spasmodic, depending where one lived.Another stipulation was the Cause of Death cert ,which was needed for Registration had /has to be signed by last doctor who attended deceased.Could be a problem in certain cases.Hope this helps.

Hi Steve,
I am finally back had some updating to do.
This is my relationship to Mary McPadden, she was born in 1869 to Hugh McPadden & Ellen Cassidy.
They are my great grandparents ,their son Stephen +Mary McGovern are my grandparents, while my parents were  Hugh McPadden + Margaret Morgan. So my father & Mary were 1st cousins.
Derrintawy (Derrintovey)is in Co.Leitrim, all the above lived in Ireland,so there are quite a few cousins down the generations. However in Marys family there were only 2 siblings who had children,Stephen ,my grandfather + Michael who as the eldest son inherited the homestead in Derrintovey. Two of the family died young & whatever happened Mary.
Look forward to sharing info.with you.

Hi Steve,
Would certainly be very interested to hear from you.Can compare notes.
This has remained a mystery to me for sometime.
Anyone who might have known was dead by then.

My account was hacked some years ago with considerable difficult consequences so scared me off for a while.
Regards : Maura

Could probably refer to a commercial traveller, who called to  retailers for orders.I have heard of travelling salesmen too who called to householders selling a variety of wares

Just to say the sites I mentioned do not seem to be easily accessible or known outside Ireland.

As was said previously older Church Records are patchy, however if you want to try the R.C. Church in Killinkere, their email address is :killinkere@kilmorediocese.ie.
I am assuming that is the denomination.

There is also Cavan Heritage & Genealogy.
