The Common Room / Re: King George III Rumour
« on: Wednesday 23 August 23 14:11 BST (UK)  »
Thank you everyone, I have always taken the tale with a pinch of salt but thought I would have a look at everything now that we have so much info online.  When my late husband's mum gave us the family tree all written down it was in the early 90s so we couldn't verify much at all.

Would really love to know where the story originated and why!!!

Thanks again,

Lisa

The Common Room / King George III Rumour
« on: Tuesday 22 August 23 16:03 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I am researching my late husband's family tree for my children and there has been a story passed down that they are related to King George III via his daughter Princess Elizabeth.  Apparently she had an illegitimate daughter called Eliza (b. 1814) who was fostered by a family called Turner.

I have gone back to Eliza Turner (b. 1814) who married John Craigdallie of Perth.  I found her in the 1851 census (she is now Eliza Mark - b. 1814 in Deptford, Kent) so she exists and everything matches that we have been told but obviously how do we find out if she was fostered or if she was in fact royal?

Any help or guidance would be appreciated.  My son has got his DNA on Ancestry if that helps do you think?

Thank you in advance,

Lisa Lade

Hi there,

My Sarah Hassan was born in Westminster, London and was my 3X Grt Grandmother.  She married Edward Evans, also from London so i'm sure it is a different one. Sorry I can't be of help.

Regards,
Lisa

Dorset / Re: Pubs on Poole Quay

Hi George,

Thank you for your message.  Looking at the original thread I can't believe my last post was in 2005!  The time goes way too fast.

Anyway, I was really interested to see that you now own the shop that was The Britannia Inn.  I haven't done much on my family history for a few years now as I hit a brick wall with all the lines I was tracing but it was great to hear from you.

My parents used to take me on holiday to Bournemouth every year when I was a child and we always visited Poole as it was my mum's favourite place - she never knew that that was where her family all originated from which is very strange.  We walked up and down the Quay numerous times and never knew!  Our house was full of Poole pottery items and I've even got some items here from the 70s!

I bet the Ms Dibben you mentioned was probably a distant relative of mine, although there seem to be quite a few Dibbens in Dorset and Hampshire.

Strange to think that you now run the shop where my ancestors once worked and slept!  If ever I get down to Poole again I will pop in and see you, although I haven't been down there for years but I would love to soon.

If you find out any other information about the Dibbens then please let me know, I would be really grateful.

Thanks again,

Lisa

Suffolk / Re: TRIMLEY ST MARY MAP

Thanks Carol,

That is very helpful information.  I've been to Trimley before, just when I started my research about 10 years ago, but want to go back as i've found out so much more since then.  The graveyard is full of my Gorham/Farthing ancestors (not literally!) and i'm going with my sister this time so that she can see where we originate from too!

Thanks again,

Lisa

Hi all,

Thank you so much for the links to the map sites - although none show Cabbage Square unfortunately :(

My ancestors lived in Cabbage Square (from census records) for over 40 years and they were farmers so i'm presuming they may have been cottages or something provided for the workers so may have been part of the farm buildings, just presuming!  On the census records, before Cabbage Square is "The Street" (which again doesn't exist anymore) and then straight afterwards it goes onto The Rectory.

I will look up the Felixstowe family history society and see if they can help.

Thank you all again,

Lisa

Suffolk / Trimley St Mary map
« on: Monday 04 May 15 14:02 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I'm just wondering if anybody has a copy of an old map of Trimley St Mary (preferably around 1900) as I am visiting the area on Thursday to do some research and need to find a place called Cabbage Square that doesn't exist anymore.

If anyone could help that would be brilliant,

Thank you all in advance,

Lisa
