Unfortunately I did not know she was Nathan's wife, going on your original post, so have been searching fruitlessly for a Birth/Marriage/ Death of an Ellen Pendle!!
Keyboard86

Yes its been a nightmare with both the mother and daughter, I do apologise for any confusion  :(  but i seem to know a bit more about them now, and can quite happily say i have their births and deaths dates, but since the Pendles seemed to have pretty large families the John Pendle born 1835, there was 11 members of that family living in one small house its hard to imagine. I'm not sure if the Daughter Ellen (b.1891) ever got married as i can't find anything on Ancestry

Hi, that's why! She became a Pendle but not.born as one?

Keyboard86

I know that, she was nathans wife, Together they had a daughter in 1891 called Ellen also.

I thought you was asking me for proof of her date of birth???

The Pendles certainly believed in keeping the same set of names through each generation  :(

In 1877 Emma E Pendle (My relative) married Henry Cable.

They moved to Bocking near braintree, There Henry worked as a Time Keeper, and Emma as a silk worker which i asumme would be at the local courtaulds mill. Their first child Allen was named after Emmas youngest brother who died aged 10 years.

Eventually they moved back to Halstead and had several more children, some of which died in france during world war 1

If we are going back to Dennington, I may be able to contribute further - will dig out my information and check as this is where my Pendel/Pendal/Pendle connection hails from  ;)

Don't worry too much about spellings, there was no correct/incorrect way - people just wrote what they thought they had heard on records.  All three variations of the above appear in our Pendle line  ::)

Pat ...

Thanks Pat  ;)

Essex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Colchester Cavalry Barracks
« on: Saturday 04 February 12 13:24 GMT (UK)  »
I have found my great grandfather on the 1871 census. He was a private in the army and was living at  Colchester Cavalry Barracks. Unfortunately, it doesn't say which regiment he was serving with. Can anyone suggest how and where I can find which regiments were at these barracks in April 1871 please? Thanks. ann

Hi Ann

The regiments stationed there were many and start with these from 1914 to 1918 although they had calvery regiments there from the Crimean war 1854-1856 - Remember The Charge of the Light Bridage ??

From 1914 to 1918 they had stationed there
The Essex Yeomanry
Royal Horse Guards
10th Royal Hussars
4th Reserve Calvery Regiment

And you need to remember other regiments that were staioned there weren't necessarily calvery units but had there own horses, for transportation and the such

There is a Phoebe b 1835 who is the daughter of the James and Elizabeth mentioned by Scrabble re 1861, shown as Pendell in 1841 census ref HO107/1025/9/13

Keyboard86

Her Son John was born in 1835, so i know its not that Phoebe, in fact its spelt phebe, and i know its not a typo as it appears he same in quite a few records, i'll look back at my records and post where i got the 1811 date  ;)

Thanks so much I think the problem with the pendles is that they keep using the same names over different generations and thats where it gets confusing Phoebe Pendle was born on 1811, so i don't think that the james and elizabeth could fit in the same generation, Seems relateded but because of the ages i don't think James could of been Phoebe's father, he would of only been 5 years old, It may well be her Brother, That would make more sense, So all i need to find out is who is the father of james  ::)

This is harder than it looks  ;D
