Durham / Found Bottle Bank Photos for you !!
« on: Monday 22 August 05 10:31 BST (UK)  »
I had a look last night on the net to see what I could find for you.

Have you tried-              www.picturesofgateshead.co.uk

It has one photo which doesn't quite manage to show Bottle Bank itself, just the street at the bottom of it, but it does give you an idea of the area.

It is peeing down today, but I am due to go to Gateshead within the next week, so I will try my best to go on a sunny day for you.

Please don't buy the book until you see the photos I send you. I don't want you wasting your money if I can do the same as the book. I know I haven't got a Tardis and cannot go back in time, to take a photo of when your ancestor was alive !!

Perhaps you could phone the publisher and ask if Bottle Bank is shown in the book, before you buy ?

I can try going to Gateshead Library to see if they have any photos of Bottle Bank and take a photo of the photo ???????!!!!!!

Let me know what you want.

Cheers,

VAL

Durham / Re: Where is this place?
« on: Sunday 19 June 05 13:29 BST (UK)  »
If you give me a short while (2-3 weeks), I can get you a photo. (Waiting for camera to be delivered !)
Mail me privately, with your email address and I will send it to you.

I am sure that there will be some local history pages that have a photo of circa the time period you want, if you do a net search.

Best,

Val   :)
ATTACHMENTS

Bridge 1 photo has the new SAGE building on the left. If you were to 'turn left as the crow flies' and continue off picture, then bottle bank is further left. Bottle Bank is a very short, steep bank. It is a one way street these days.
I was told by relatives that it used to be where the ladies of the night worked, in the 1970's-1980s.

Bridge 2 is the reverse. Newcastle on left, Gateshead side on right. Just to give you an idea.

Cheers,
VAL

I know that the dates were wrong, I just thought there might have been a  cousin / great uncle  link, as they had a tradition of repeating names in those days.

Thank you,

Best,

Juliabibi    Reply #5   " married a William Paterson "

Hi there,

I have a William George Begg Paterson born c1875, living with Grandmother Isabella Cullen / Massie in 1881 census. Peterhead address.   Using a process of elimination to work out his parent  !!

Isabella was listed as 'Cullen or Massie' in the census. was listed as 'Head' of household, but no husband William (Massie.). Not listed as widow. If he still lived with her, why was she listed as head ? Surely if he was dead, she would be listed as 'widow' ?

Isabella had a child Peter Buchan, before she married William Massie.

Can't find any evidence, as yet.

Thank you for looking.

Best,

VAL
