Louth / Re: McAiney and Variations
« on: Tuesday 16 February 16 21:45 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, Been a while but a bit more information has come to light re my search for a Patrick McAiney (name varies).

Records after his death state he was born in Dundrile, County Louth(not the Death certificate but where he died), I have census records saying born in Dundalk County Louth and cannot find anything about Dundrile, does it exist?.

His date of Birth is stated as 1840 and married Elizabeth Duffy, Father is also Patrick and married a Rose Conly.

Just wondered two things, does Dundrile exist and if not where would be the best place to look to try and find his Fathers marriage to Rose in Dundalk hopefully?.

Thanks for any help.

There were many boats and ships providing travel between Ireland and England.

But, as these were in essence ferries internal to the United Kingdom, no passenger lists were kept!

Thanks,
With his name being on the list then, would that suggest he probably did travel from New York?

The Common Room / Passenger ship Route New York to Liverpool 1800s

Hi I`ve recently seen a ship list with one of my namesakes listed, it says Pat.k McAiney arriving in Liverpool from New York in 1896 age 52 so b1844 ish?.
Whilst I`ve no trace of this particular person I was delighted to see the name as I`ve hit a brick wall trying to trace "my" Patrick McAiney b1839 or any McAiney in Ireland for that matter.

My main questions though are did passengers from Ireland to the UK get picked up en route from New York to Liverpool or was there a separate Ireland to Liverpool route then? maybe he did travel from New York.
Also, a long shot I know, but if he did board in Ireland are boarding lists available on a site somewhere?

Thanks Steve

Louth / McAiney and Variations

Does anyone have any Irish info on the name variations I have for the person below living in Preston England but being born in 1839 in Dundalk please?
All my UK Census info just says Ireland apart from 1881, which mentions Dundalk.
There is another McAiney (Peter) born Louth, who lived in the same Street in Preston later on but with his own family showing he is 5 years older than Patrick so they may be Brothers?
Peter had the name McAiney right through the Census from 1871 onwards.

Really stuck on the name and the date Patrick moved to England so any info would be welcome.
Thanks

Patrick McKNEANY     age 22   1861 UK census b Ireland (FindMyPast website has McAneany)
Patrick McINEANY     age 32    1871 UK census b Ireland
Patrick McANEANY    age 42     1881 UK census b Ireland DUNDALK
Patrick McAINEY       age 51     1891 UK census b Ireland
Patrick McAINEY       age 62     1901 UK census b Ireland

Louth / McAiney - Duffy

Hi, Can anyone shed any light on my query please?
I`m researching (or I was!) Patrick McAINEY, but as you can see the name changes going back through the English census dates.
I`m assuming Patrick and Elizabeth came over to England to live in Preston Lancs as a married couple prior to 1861.
I  just wondered if anything matches when they were in Ireland.

Patrick McKNEANY     age 22   1861 census b Ireland
Elizabeth McKNEANY age 22   1861 census b Ireland (also a Catherine Duffy down as Mother in law and Patrick, brother in Law both b Ireland)

Patrick McINEANY     age 32    1871 census b Ireland
Elizabeth McINEANY age 32    1871 census b Ireland

Patrick McANEANY   age 42     1881 census b Ireland DUNDALK
Ellen McANEANY       age 43    1881 census  b Ireland CAVAN

Patrick McAINEY       age 51     1891 census (I think Elizabeth/Ellen has died since 1881)
Patrick McAINEY       age 62     1901 census

All the dates and children match up during that time.

Regards
Steve

Can I ask, would the census forms have normally been filled in by the householder in those days?

I have seen it signed by a Neighbour on behalf of the Householder on one search I did, so I guess that was the case.

Thanks very much for that keyboard86, that fits in with my information for the birth of his Father (Louth) and explains the lack of McAineys on any Irish seach.

ps Just seen your addition, again thanks so much.
