I sincerely apologize for leaving out the dates.  He died 9 Sep 1913 in Hoppengarten.  He was the trainer for August Belmont on Long Island in 1896 so I think he worked for Oppenheimer from 1904 to 1913.  Could be as early as 1902 or could be a bit later than 1904.  As for which Baron, whomever was Baron from 1900-1913 and loved horses and racing would be his boss.  There can only be one baron for a family, correct? Eldest son inherits the rank when the father dies?

Can you give us a time frame please ? and which Baron Oppenheimer ? Max / Freidrich or Simon
cheers

I believe that is what my cousins said as well - that my great grandfather was buried with kin in the Clogheen area.  I will have to find it the next time I am in Tipperary.

I know its backwards I'm going again but a good friend of mine told me once .

That in the Parish of Knockgraffon where names like Hyland, Luddy, Barrett, O'Donnell, Kenneally all came up from Clogheen/Ballyporeen and continued to go back down that way to be buried until well into this century .

Hello, I am looking for information with regard to Martin Rost whom I believe worked for Barron Oppenheimer at his horse stables in Hoppengarten.  He could have been sharing an apartment with John J. Hyland.

Thank you,

Thank you so very much!  I knew about Michael and Eleanor but not Maurice and Judith...  This gives me something to run on.  But I'll still leave this topic open as I hope someone else will be able to sa, "Hey!  I'm related to these folks so hello there, cousin!"  Or one can only hope.

Hi again

There is a marriage between Maurice Barrett and Judith Fanning on Feb. 6th 1825 in New Inn

There is another marriage between Michael Barrett and Eleanor Fanning on July 10th 1821

No sign of a Quinn Barrett marriage .

I was told by a lady at Bru Boru that Northern Tipperary is slow at putting their records online so you might want to check back every month to see if anything new was added.

Good luck,

P.S.  You might want to consider checking a neighboring county depending on how close the family is in relation to the county line.  E.g. my family is found in both Tipperary and Waterford.

Knocknaquill and Poulmucka are correct (my errant finger put in the extra a, my bad).  I misremembered the name; it is Maurice Barrett, not Thomas Barrett.  Regardless, I am still in search for information with regard to the Barrett family and the two cousins.

Are you spelling townlands correctly?

Tipperary / Barretts of Donegal

Hello,  I was recently in Ireland where I spent time in New Inn with my cousins.  I was told by my cousins that the Barrett family came from Donegal, near Poulmucka. There were two Barrett cousins farming next to each other.  One was my great grandfather Michael Barrett.  I'm hoping someone here is related to the other Barrett cousin and can fill me in.  The time frame would be 1855-1875.  I've checked the Griffith's Valuations and only see a Thomas Barrett in Knocknaquilla, which is not exactly "next door" to the farm.  There is a Quinn opposite my great grandfather's land... but am unsure if any of this siblings married a Quinn.  Fannin/Fanning could be an option.

Warm Regards,

BarrettTree - my Hylands in my Barrett tree were from the Kilbehenney area.  As I told Lisa62, there is a possibility my Barretts came from Cork.  My father said someone came from an area NW of Blarney Castle.  My father also said someone came from Galway.  It could be the forefather came from Galway to Cork (ala the Tirawley Barretts) and then my Barretts that settled in Knockskaugh/Donegal came from Cork.  I am unsure.  My father is dead and my relatives have no recollection where the family is from.  Have you had your DNA tested by 23andme.com or AncestryDNA.com?  It would be interesting to see if we match.  I am second generation Irish here in America and received my Irish passport last year.

Lisa62 - I am a Barrett and have a Cotter as a great grandmother.  My Barretts came from Knockskaugh in Tipperary, just NW of Clonmel.  My great-grandmother Johanna Cotter married John James Hyland and they had 7 children together.  6 of the 7 children came to NY State and settled in and around Long Island, circa 1900-1910.  I know my Barretts are from New Inn/Knockskaugh but am unsure as to where they initially came from.  My father told me some gentleman/farmer came from Galway but my brother says he came from Cork.  I do recall my father saying something similar but I thought that it pertained to another great great grandfather.  Have you had your DNA tested by 23andme.com or Ancestry's DNA?  I am on both.  Would be interesting to see if we match.  And my mother was from Canana.... SK.  I still have relatives in SK and ON.
