Hi Steve,

Thanks for the quick reply. I suggest that we find out what each of us already knows first. If you could give me an email address I’ll send you my descendant charts for John Murray and for Jean Evans' parents.

Are you on Ancestry? I have an abridged tree there.

My email address is (*)

Hi Steve,

Are you still looking into Janet Murray Boyd? I'm descended from her sister Isabella. Their parents were John Murray from Ireland (county unknown) and Jean Evans from Castledawson, county Derry, Ireland. John was Catholic, Jean was Protestant.

My family tree and my DNA results are on Ancestry and Family Tree DNA. I have DNA matches with two other descendants of John Murray and Jean Evans.

Please reply to this post if you are still researching this subject. I'll be happy to exchange notes with you.

Regards,

Iain Layden

Hi Andrea,

Good to hear from you!

I am living in Kuwait. My father was born and grew up in Dumfries, hence the correct spelling of my name! He and Mum moved to London before I was born. We still have relatives in Dumfries.

Yes I would be very interested to see your article about Diana McGauchie, please. I didn't know about Diana.

The photo of Agnes is with my papers in the UK, unfortunately. I will send it to you next time I go home, in the autumn. It was sent to me by a relative in Dumfries who was also tracing her family history, and who found me through one of these notice boards!

Hi Andrea,

One of my ancestors from Dumfries is Joseph McGauchie, 1825 - 1900, son of John McGauchie and Helen Smith. Originally from County Down. I have gathered some information about Joseph, and have a photo somewhere of Joseph's daughter Agnes in old age.

Would like to find out more information about Joseph, and also about John McGauchie and where in County Down the family came from.

I would be interested in any information you have about this.
