Thanks BridgetM

I came across part of this before but it did not make sense. But thanks to you, it does make a lot more sense now. I still need to be able to prove the connection with the shipwrecked whaler. I am really struggling to find the name of the ship. I came across a copy of the Lloyd's List, for that year, on the City of London website. I emailed them but they did not seem very helpful unless I had contacted the wrong department.

On their website they list, somewhere in the region of, 725 ships but mostly they only have the date and the name of the ship.

More research to be done!!!!

Thanks for your reply.

Regards

Martin

Westmorland / Daniel Keen christened 15 Feb 1767

I am currently researching my family history in the Southport/North Meols area. In 1783 a Whaling ship, name unknown, sank off the coast of Southport. The only survivor was a young man of 17, named Daniel Keen. Daniel remained in Southport for the remainder of his life. He married Susan Rigby and they had seven surviving children. These children went on to add greatly to the population of North Meols.

I am trying to trace where Daniel was born and wish to trace details of his family. I came across a Daniel Keen, son of William and Margaret Keen, christened 15 Feb 1767 in Kendal Westmorland. I was wondering if anyone has any information supporting the shipwreck, proving that this Daniel is indeed the man I am looking for. Daniel and Susan named two of their children William and Margaret.

Unfortunately, from a family research point of view, I now live in Canada and have to rely on the Internet and the help of some extremely nice people.

If you have any information that would be wonderful or if you could give me any advice it will be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Martin
