The Common Room / Help needed with Ancestry subscription
« on: Sunday 10 March 24 20:52 GMT (UK)  »
I have used Ancestry before and I am a member although my subscription has lapsed. I was thinking of joining again and thought that a 12 month sub would be better value than a 6 month one. However on the subcriptions page the maximum shown is 6 months.
Research on line (although strangely not shown the Ancestry site itself) showed that that gift memberships can be bought for 12 months via various on line offers from newspapers eg, The Sun.
But it seems that this has to be bought someone else but if they do and buy it for me does it mean I can continue using my old account or do I have to open a new one?
Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks for these, so it looks like hs name is Liffiton not Liffiter and he was a tailor, I will have to chek these records carefully and see if there is any connection to Thomas Grant.

Thats useful, thank you.

The reason for asking aboutt his is that Thomas Grant went from being a servant in Bere Regis and East Stoke in Dorset in 1836 to being a furnitutre dealer in soho by 1841 and I was trying to find out how/where he might have obtained the means to do so. I wondered if George Liffiter was his business partner.

I never thought of a bomb but your right it does have a look of a hand grenade about it. I have heard about various clubs members of the armed forces belonged to eg the caterpillar club and the goldfish club and wondered if these might be connected to one of those.

My mum's friend's husband was a sapper during the war, maybe the slide belonged to him and not her brother.

Yes both have Royal Engineers written at the bottom, so these were both sweetheart badges althougth it seems sent to his sister not his sweetheart. How/where were these badges bought from and who made them?

Yes I have seen that marriage cert thank you, it took place just 4 days after the census which is why I was keen to see what it said on the census.
