Derbyshire Lookup Requests / Re: Margerrison family - Ashover
« on: Friday 15 November 19 17:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hello Judymac,
Sorry for the delay in replying to your posting but I was unsure whose family tree I was researching at that time for Margerrison - my pastime/hobby is researching other peoples family trees and I've done over 200 in the past 10 years!  Finally I've found who I was researching and I'm sure she would be interested in the family bible. Could you email me the register pages of the bible so that I can decide if in fact this lady's branch of the Margerrison family is involved.  Her family tree does have a Edith Margerrison born in 1889 in Anslow, Staffs.  My email address is robertturl@outlook.com
Many thanks
Robert

I have not been able to identify Fred Bailey on previous censuses - it's difficult with such a common name and not knowing the names of his parents - the only record I have id the 1911 census wherein he is listed as aged 32 and born in Birmingham.  I do know that Laura Bailey (formerly Corney) did marry again - in 1927 she married George Morley in Wortley, near Leeds - and on the marriage certificate she declares herself to be a 'widow' so I presume Fred Bailey died somewhere between 1918-1927.

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Marriage of Laura Corney around 1907-08
« on: Sunday 21 April 19 10:39 BST (UK)  »
On the 1911 Census I found Laura Evelyn Bailey (aged 23, born in Leeds, Yorks) together with Fred Bailey (aged 32, born in Birmingham) and it states she was married for 3 years and had had a child but it had died.  Laura was a dancer and Fred was an actor.  I am unable to find any trace of a marriage for Fred Bailey & Laura Corney.  I did discover that Laura had a son John Leslie Bailey in Leeds in 1919 but on his birth certificate no father is shown - I understand from members of his family that Fred Bailey was badly gassed during the first world war and was in a nursing home for several years after the war.  Can anyone help me find their marriage record?

Kent Lookup Requests / Re: George Hill born circa 1837-38 in Herne Bay

I think that Tony's scenario which suggests William Hill eventually married Sarah Howard (widow) is probably correct as on the 1871 census I found George Hill, then aged 32 & born in Herne Bay living with his wife Elizabeth (he had married Elizabeth Horton in 1861 in Bermondsey) and their 2 children Charles (5) & Arthur (2) plus Sarah Howard (aged 24), whose relationship was described as 'sister-in-law' - I think this could be 'step-sister'. So, I'm still not sure about George's mother

Yes, I have a copy of the marriage certificate - he was living at 22 Jackson Street, Blackburn whilst his bride was at 14 Jackson Street, Blackburn

I have it already - it suggests that Adam & Sarah were man & wife but the 1861 census tells us differently.  I'd still like to verify the parentage of the Joseph Hampson, aged 8 appearing on the 1871 census

I've now found this entry on the 1861 Scottish Census -
Adam Thomson, aged 28 & unmarried - born in England
Sarah More, aged 20 & unmarried - born in Ireland
John Thomson, aged 9 mths - born in Kilmarnock, Ayr
Living in Irvine, Ayrshire and Adam was a 'Rodman in coal mine'

"The baptism is from http://www.lan-opc.org.uk site. You can just do a general search for John Moore - mother Sarah etc or via the parish."

It's not the baptism entry I'm referring to - the latin entry quoted by Radcliff was dated 9 July 1878 which was 3 days before John Moore, aged 17, married Elizabeth Flynn.  No doubt this was John being accepted into the Catholic Church prior to his marriage.

You guys are amazing - thank you but I have a few questions -
Firstly can I ask Radcliff where he found the entry for 'Joannes Moore' albeit in Latin?
Secondly, am I right in saying that Adam Hampson did not go on to marry Sarah Moore at any stage ?
Thirdly, on the 1871 census entry there's a Joseph Moore, aged 8 born in Bolton - there is an entry for such a person on FreeBMD but his mother's maiden name was Brabin.  Whose son was he - Adam's or Sarah's ? Finally, where was Adam Hampson in 1861?  Since his illegitimate son John (Joannes) was born in 1860 in Kilmarnock I searched the Scottish 1861 census but no sign.
By the way, I don't think the entry for the 1851 census is our Adam Hampson.
