Northumberland / Re: Christopher Gascoigne 22nd Northumberland Fusiliers

Hi Dave
Good to hear from you..  Christopher was my wifes grandfather. Her father was William (Bill) born in 1913 in Morpeth.  Bill and his family lived in Sth Elmsall where he was a miner.   I've visited the Thiepval monument on the Somme where Christophers name is engraved in the stone in a very prominent position.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: ftDNA and GEDMatch giving different results

Yes that is what I am saying. I will double. Check the kit no is correct.
So matches with several family members at >3<4 cm is not a sign I am related ?

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / ftDNA and GEDMatch giving different results
« on: Wednesday 21 February 18 03:40 GMT (UK)  »
having uploaded my ancestrydna raw data to ftDNA, my second highest match was to  a gentleman named Bill with    shared centimorgans=68,Longest Block 19 Predicted 2nd-4th Cousin

I made contact and it turns out he is the first cousin of Dick who is the husband of the lady I made contact with. Several of Bill and Dicks relatives have taken DNA tests which are all uploaded to GEDMatch. Comparing them to me on GEDmatch

Bill who is Dicks 1st Cousin:  9.8 on chromosome 9
Dick                   3.6 on chromosome 3
Dicks Sister Judy      3.7 on chromosome 3    6.6 on chromosome 6
Dicks first son ,      0
Dicks second son.      3.6 on chromosome 3
Dicks daughter.        3.6 on chromosome 3

So two questions
1) ftDNA and GEDMatch have significantly different analysis between  Bill and me ?  Which one to believe??
2)  Does this cluster of low cm matches to several members of the same family add any creedence to me being related to them?

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: Y-DNA test finds long-lost GF
« on: Monday 19 February 18 04:16 GMT (UK)  »
You're very welcome  :)

I've just order a Y-DNA test as I don't know my paternal GF  ..
That , coupled with contacting and cross-referencing shared links with DNA matched 3-4-5th cousins and a very large slice of luck  might just help me break through a brick wall..
We shall see    ...

Lancashire / Re: Help finding a road in Blackpool

For a moment it was all rather spooky.
I went to school at Arnold school in Arnold Avenue.  It would have been bizarre if my grandmother had been born there within 100m without my prior knowledge  !

Arnold Street is several miles north of there.. Not that I suppose any of it really makes any difference
given the perspective of a century ..

My GM's birth certificate says she was born in Arnold Street, Blackpool  1905

I know of Arnold Avenue ( I even went to school there !  )  ,  but not Arnold Street

Did Arnold Street exist ?

Thanks in advance

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Help with Birth location
« on: Tuesday 06 February 18 12:17 GMT (UK)  »
Strange as it sounds , yes thats what I'm  thinking

I know that Alice Maud Tinnion was born in the Fylde in Oct-Dec 1905 and that her mother was Alice Tinnion and the father is not registered.. My grandmother Alice Maud Farrar was also born in Blackpool in 1905'ish and her b/day was Oct 26.   There is no record of birth cert for her
Also cant find Alice Maud Tinnion on 1911 census or later marriage, so maybe one and the same ?

And I know that I have 2nd-3rd-4th cousin DNA matches with two people , who, all three of us have a match with another person who took a dna test surnamed Tinnion.
Alices Tinnions brother and mother/father are the direct ancestors  of one of those persons to whom I have 2nd-3rd cousin relationship. In fact the mother is 2nd-3rd  and her daughter 3rd-4th
So Im highly confident that Alice  Tinnion whos parents are John Tinnion/Margaret Darby  is my GGM.

I am awaiting arrival of Alice Maud Tinnions BC to see if her mothers address is Cumbria..
