Hi,
I have done some more digging and after interrogating my mum found lots more information that I think has led me to Joan's parents! The siblings' names were the major clue!
My grandmother was the youngest of four children.
NAME: Harry George Frederick Holloway
BIRTH: Jul 1912 - East Stonehouse, Devon
NAME: Edna Alice Holloway
BIRTH: Oct 1914 - East Stonehouse, Devon
NAME: Doris Violet Holloway
BIRTH: Dec 1917 - East Stonehouse, Devonshire
Joan Nancy Holloway - 13th August 1923 in Coventry
With this I think their parents are:
Alice E Adams
Henry J Holloway - mum says he was a sailor.
That would explain them living near Plymouth. I have no idea what took them to Coventry, and I do not think they were al from Plymouth either. Possibly the war took them to Coventry - there is a gap between Doris and Joan, so war and possible miscarriages/stillbirths would account for that.
Marriage record. There is a Robert Redmon attached to this record - a mistake?
Name: Henry Holloway
Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1911
Registration District: East Stonehouse
Inferred County: Devon
Volume Number: 5b
Page Number: 680

Death records for Alice and Henry (I now know they died when my grandmother was 4 and 16)
NAME: Alice E Holloway (39)
BIRTH: abt 1889
DEATH: Mar 1928 - Coventry, Warwickshire, England
NAME: Henry Holloway
BIRTH: abt 1884
DEATH: Jun 1941 - Coventry, Warwickshire, England
Holloway, Hernry, of 4 CASTLE-GROVE, KENILWORTH, WARWICKSHIRE DIED 16 JUNE 1941 AT the DAIMLER COMPANY LIMITED WORKS SANDY-LANE COVENTRY ADMINISTRATION bIRMINGHAM 24 JANUARY TO HARRY GEORGE FREDERICK HOLLOWAY FITTER EFFECTS £385
Now I'm trying to find their births and to trace their parents. I am struggling with this - I can't seem to find either Alice or Henry.
My family think that Alice's mother was called Elizabeth. She brought up my grandmother following Alice's death. However, Elizabeth could also be Henry's mother! She would have died AFTER 1928 that is for sure. I don't know if she survived Henry or not.
Thanks!
Jo
