Cornwall Completed Lookup Requests / Re: TRURO - Saunders - 1840's
« on: Sunday 08 May 11 16:05 BST (UK)  »
Hi again

I've just remembered that Ellens father William was also a Compositor as was John Saunders Duck!.

I hope we can more about him.

Regards
Jo

Hello again, Jo,

I am very interested about this new lead.

I take it to mean then that William Saunders Compositor possibly met the Compositor Mr Duck, and that he then allowed his daughter Ellen to marry Mr Duck?  And that these are the two grandfathers of John Saunders Duck?

So, the plumber was the Mr John Duck who married Ellen Saunders.  But both she and her new husband were the children of the compositors Mr William Saunders and Mr ....? Duck.  What was John Saunders Duck's grandfather Duck's name?  And that of his grandmother Duck?  Do you have the ancestors of the Duck family as I am intrigued to find out more about these people please.

And what happened to John Saunders Duck?  Who were his children as they would be the relations of Auntie Grace Lane of Camberwell, too?

I know that Ellen was alive in 1921.  She was about 70 at the time.

I understand that John was her only child.

With best wishes

Hallo
I am researching the Saunders/Duck tree for my friend Brenda Duck, her Grandfather was John Saunders Duck 1880, he lived with auntie Grace on the 1901 census and was in the Army as a married man, he married Ellen Florence Bennett. I also can't find him on the 1881 or 1891 census! He died in Wandsworth, London, can you help with any info at all? I have his birth certificate which shows he was born in Bethnal green area on 26th Dec 1880 but not registered until early 1881, his father was John Duck, (Plumber) and his mother was Ellen Duck nee Saunders, I am assuming sister of Grace, I can find no marriage cert of his parents. The Saunders I believe moved to London from Truro.

Regards Jo Chapman

Dear Joan

I am very intigued about John Duck's birth certificate.

What precisely does it say about him?

I see that he was born on 26 December 1880 and that his father was a plumber.

Ellen and Grace were definitely sisters.

Their parents were the Saunders in the Truro census of 1840.

I know that the Saunders migrated to Kent and turn up there in about 1861.

Ellen was supposed to have been married to a sea captain and I know she was alive in 1921.

Hello, what details do you have of Gaby and her mother?

And of Mr Powell?

And of the "Imison"?

Imison is an unusual enough name for good searches to be made, but it depends where in the world they lived.

Some of the Imison family emigrated from England to Australia. And I know that at least one of the Imison young men died in the First World War.

I do not know the dates of Gaby Imison.

Is it possible perhaps that her mother married and she was then widowed and married afresh?

Hello, I hope you found out about Violet Gaby Imison.

I have looked up the Births Marriages and Deaths.

There is an entry for Violet Gaby Imison for 1928 at Holywell, Wales, in the first quarter of the year.

I could not find out who her father was though.

Does help you at all?

There is a Violet Imison shown in Australia for 1954 for electoral roll, but I did not have a subscription so I could not open it to see.

I would be delighted to know the details of your husband's POOLE family tree.

I am not at all surprised that the Rev Thos Poole is NOT the same as Tom Poole, friend of Coleridge, as it transpires that the surname "Poole" is about the one hundredth most COMMON name in England!

with best wishes

Dear David

I am really very excited by this.

When did the Reverend Poole become Headmaster at Oswestry School?

Do you know what was said in the will, and when did he die?

How do I get information from the National Library of Wales?

Thank you so much for your kind help

Dear Pete

That is wonderful news!

I would love to know the family history of the Poole family.  Joseph Ruscombe Poole - solicitor --- did he go to Cambridge University by any chance?

And whereabouts did he build his house? Was it near Upton Magna or Shrewsbury or in Somerset?

I am really excited by all of this as I am sure it is my long-lost relatives.

With best wishes

Hi Imison

The poet was a chap called Samuel Taylor Coleridge......

His cottage in Nether Stowey was lent to him by Rev.Thomas Poole.

Rev Thomas Poole was a nephew of Rev.Edward Poole who started the first free school in England at Enmore.

I am in contact with the descendants of Rev.Thomas Poole, as I mentioned they have the family tree in great detail - I believe it was compiled by your Rev John Poole but am not 100%.

I will pm you my e.mail address - the chap I am in contact with is the guy you need to talk to, but he only has a landline number.

I am not related, I have been researching our house which was built by a solicitor, Joseph Ruscombe Poole in the 1860's and have just sort of wandered into the Poole family history!

I dont have a copy of the diary but the chap I can put you into contact with is the author!!

Regards

Pete.

Dear Pete

I would love to have all the details you have on ALL that you have, because I am sure that this is my family tree too.

I have been searching for this documentation for many, many years and would dearly love to have the copies.

Thank you so much for your kindness --- are you part of the Poole family too?

With best wishes

Dear Pete

YES,  indeed.

Was this the vicar of ENMORE?

There is a painting of him I believe.

And he founded the school.

And was a friend of a famous poet I believe.

A great philanthropist.

If you could place here the details of Mrs Elizabeth Poole, that would be brilliant!

Thank you so much

Hi Imison,

If you are still looking for info.

I have access to a definitive family tree of Rev.Thomas Poole, there is a direct descendant who still lives nearby, and the family historian has copious detail (much compiled by Re. Thomas Poole himself.).

I have an interest in the Ruscombe Poole branch of the family in Somerset.

I have details of a book written by Elizabeth Poole (1733 - 1819) called 'The Shropshire Journal of Mrs. Elizabeth Poole' - this details a visit by Mrs. Poole to her relatives in Shropshire - its actually a reprint of her diary.

If my recollection serves me, she must have been married to Rev. Thomas Poole's brother.

Let me know if any of this rings a bell.

Regards

Pete.
