US Lookup Requests / Vahey, McCarthy, Hovasse - Massachusetts
« on: Sunday 09 September 18 09:01 BST (UK)  »

Mary Ellen Vahey b 7 Aug 1909 Cambridge, Massachusetts, died 13 Oct 2001, Melrose, Middlesex, Mass.

Have her in 1920 census with widowed father James Joseph Vahey, b 1875, Ireland, d 1935, Mass - Unable to locate 1910 census with mother Mary, née Bagot/Baggot born 1886 Ireland, died 10 Feb 1919 Massachusetts (my line)

By 1930 census she is still with father and 2nd wife, married with a son Lawrence J McCarthy, b 7 Sept 1928.  No father/husband listed on census. Lawrence died 2008. Possibly first husband is called Timothy, unable to locate marriage or death.

By 1940 census she is with 2nd husband Joseph Hovasse, b 1909, first son Lawrence McCarthy, age 11 and 3 further Hovasse children, firstborn a girl in c1934 then 3 sons. 2 prior to 1940 on census, the 4th son b ? after census taken.

Unsure If Hovasse children still living. So no names given.

If possible would like to find marriage details of husbands and births or bapts of all children & possible deaths/burials of her family.

Thanks if you can help, or point me in the direction of Massachusetts BMD after 1920/1930s. Any info appreciated.

Glamorganshire / Re: Ton Pentre, Rhondda - Burials

Pontypridd Library have very good family history resources for the Rhondda and surrounding areas. I would contact them via email if unable to visit, normally staff are very helpful.

They hold interment records for Treorchy cem which is most likely for your grandparents burial if stayed in area.  You could ask for a look up of the 1925 death of Martha to see if Thomas or others are in the same plot etc.  Address, informant signature on the record could maybe prove if correct or not. (Sometimes a family member, but also could be undertaker)

They also have electrol info from around 1918, but only searchable by supplying address.

Have looked at the Trealaw Burial index, (another large cem, further down valley) Martha death 1925 not there.

Good luck.

The Common Room / Ancestry tree sharing with family

Recently put my tree on Ancestry, which has a facility to share with those on ancestry via user names or via email with friends or family.

Have invited a few family members to view via their email but they cannot access.

Anybody else had this problem?

Thank you!

James was the son of Patrick b 1871 Shanbally :)

Have decided to make both trees private...

I have my own tree which is public, well sourced and documented, took years of time, money & research.

The separate tree I made private because did not want any to copy without me finding sources.

Thanks again for your help, have had help from you both and others in the past. Some things we never get to know, have all on Thomas & Children, bonus to know his parents.

Will just keep chipping away  :P

Regards Cas

Have put the others into a separate tree, and sorted them into families, marriage children etc.

No nearer finding if they are related to Thomas. Was hoping to find Church marriages which would give names of parents like Thomas has on his Church marriage, the parents are not included on the civil record.

Thanks for the help and Imput, but looks like a lost cause.
