The Common Room / Re: Royal Households

Thank you all for your responses to my request and apologies for taking so long to reply. Looks to me like Thomas and Martha Taplin are the most likely bets for the parents of the William Taplin I am working on.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Clay or Claye family
« on: Saturday 07 August 21 13:04 BST (UK)  »
I have a copy of Thomas Hurtley's 'Concise account of some Natural Curiosities in the environs of Malham in Craven, Yorkshire' 1786. It has several dated owners' signatures and notes based on a Clay or Claye family (both spellings used), which I thought might be of interest to descendants. The chief location seems to have been Bradford. The entries are as follows:

'James Clay's Book Bradford'
'James Clay died after 1818'
'Richard Claye - Manchester -1814 presented to him by his Grandfather Thos Claye of Black Abbey near Bradford' [Black Abbey is now part of Manningham in Bradford]
'Andrew M[indecipherable] Claye, Brigg 1914, presented to him by his uncle Kenneth Claye of Radlett, Herts'.

Not sure I can help further, but by all means get in touch.

Andrew.

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) Lookup Requests / Re: Rowlin Rawling Rowley

Hi Ian.
I was researching Joshua Rowlin and his book back in 2016 and had some useful help from Carla. Thanks for posting your article about the family, which has prompted me to pick up where I left off.
Happy to communicate by personal message, if that would suit you.

Regards,
Andrew.

The Common Room / Royal Households

I am researching the life of William Taplin, actor, surgeon and veterinary surgeon (c.1740-1807). The only reference to his father I have found states that William was the ‘only son of one of the body corporate of Old Windsor'.  As Old Windsor was essentially Windsor Castle at that time, does 'the body corporate' indicate the Royal Household, or something relating to the town? If so, where might I look for a record of his father?

Thanks both. Yes D.R. Blaine married her in 1831.
I'll check the FindMyPast entry. I missed it because they misspelt Blaine.

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Parents of Delabere Roberton Blaine
« on: Saturday 18 January 20 16:53 GMT (UK)  »
I am searching for the parents of Delabere Roberton Blaine. He was a lawyer who died in London in 1871 aged 64, so probable birth date was 1807, also likely to have been in London.
I suspect (and hope) his father to have been Delabere Pritchett Blaine, a veterinary surgeon in Wells Street (off Oxford Street) at the time. I have no official record of DP Blaine being married at the time, although he put an ad in the Morning Post in 1804 that his wife Mary had eloped!
Any help with the birth or the marriage appreciated.

Andrew.

Excellent JJen, many thanks. And the newspaper tip was very helpful, got a lot from spending an hour on the BNA.

Thanks both. As I said, nothing seems to be known about his dates or place of birth. I am researching him in connection with the books he published and his life as a vet. He was also a very accomplished artist.
I'll follow through on the newspaper angle and see where it gets me.

Andrew.
