Travelling People / Lock -West Bagborough
« on: Thursday 06 February 14 20:50 GMT (UK)  »
Wondering if anyone can help settle a family issue.  I have been looking at my family history and it appears I am a descendant of William Lock born 1530 in Somerset.

Thomas Lock - 1557 - West Bagborough
Thomas Lock - 1602 - West Bagborough
John Lock - 1639 - Martock
Thomas Lock - 1675 - Kingsbury
Thomas Lock - 1699 - Martock
Stephen Lock - 1742 - Aller
Stephen Lock - 1788 - Aller
Walter Lock - 1823 - Backwell
John (Jno) Lock - 1861  - Nailsea
Frederick Locke - 1899 - Trealaw (my grandfather)

There are members of the family who believe we  come from travelling descendants and others that say we are not.

Secondly, I have been trying to assess which regiment and where Frederick served.

If anyone can help on these matters I would be grateful.

I have managed, on Ancestry, to find:

Frederick John Worthington
Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, 1/A & S Highrs
10690

Date of Entry:  19.12.14

This may be a possibility as his mother's maiden name was Worthington, however unable to trace anything else ie where he signed up, home address, next of kin.  Can anyone suggest where I might find further information.

The information I have received already with regard to the uniform has been very useful.  Sorry no medals that the family is aware of, but there is talk of serving in France and India

Thank you both for your replies, I have registered with the Black Watch Forums, but not posted anything, but will do later this evening.

The information we have is very vague, no service number.  His name was Frederick John Locke, born 10 December, 1899, in Trehalow.

The story is that he was underage when joining the army and may have joined under another name.

I am trying to trace which regiment my grandfather belonged to, unfortunately there is very little information within the family, however I have managed to get a copy of the attached photograph. I was wondering whether anyone would know which regiment this uniform may be from.

Thank you for your assistance, I have been fortunate and managed to research back to 1530, it is the military side I have been struggling with, I have contacted the Blackwatch, but not with any success, will try again.
