Roxburghshire / Re: Looking for Descendants of Adam Scott and Janet Leithead
« on: Monday 03 December 18 03:50 GMT (UK)  »
thanks Annie,
Yes Gladstone is a name carried down on my Adam Scott's family. His son Kenneth named one of his son's John Gladstone Scott born 1905 in Wellington NZ. My Adam and all his family apart from eldest son, immigrated to NZ and I have a very large and full details of each line coming down. My Adam Scott and Mary Gillanders, tended to use family names for their children. Eg. ones that have Gillanders as middle names definitely relate to the Gillanders family names, and the ones without do relate the Scott family - common of which are Adam, John, Thomas, Charles, and Walter.
The Gladstone name comes from Janet Leithead's Father who was Gladstone Leithead married to Helen Hall, and the John most likely from Adam's Father (this is the Adam Scott married to Janet Leithead), whose parents were John Scott and Isabella Blaikie.
I think along with some other cousins who have been working on this theory for some years that this is most likely the correct family. All names carried down in the next generations tend to match, hence today decided to make an effort to see if any descendants are out there to talk to.
regards Ailsa

Hi, I am compiling a tree regarding the above couple, to see if I can locate any descendants. Reason for this is I am trying to see if these MIGHT be the correct parents of my Adam Scott who married Mary Gillanders. - I have his full family details. I have had a direct male line descendant do a YDNA test as well as a number of other cousins, Aunts etc take Autosomal tests. As this will be the only way to prove a possible line back in the Roxburghshire area.

This couple had the following children:
John Scott b c1811 d 1835
Gladstone Scott b c1813 m Isabella Wilson d 1890
Helen Scott b c1816 d 1830
Thomas Scott b 1818 m Janet/Jenny Davidson d
William Scott b 1820 d 1829
Charles Scott b 1823 m Isabella Hope  d 1896
Walter Scott b c1827 d
William Scott b c1829 m Jane Hope d 1865
James Scott b c1831 d
David Scott b Sept1834 d 1835
(I am still working on gathering details about the above children)
Areas of most interest are: Cavers, Priesthaugh hill, Hawick - Majority of the boys followed their Fathers line of work as being a Shepherd. My Adam Scott states on a 1855 birth of his son, he was born in Priesthaugh hill, and his occupation throughout his life was also a Shepherd.

My Adam Scott was born c1825 and would fit into this family re time frames as well as all the family names very nicely, but I need to be able to prove it.
So going to post this on this site as well as Roxburghshire and Dumfries to see if any descendants belong and are interested in making contact to see if we can solve this puzzle.
Looking forward to hearing from anyone relating to these families.
Kind regards

Hi Ann

Would appreciate a look up. Can you tell me if it is actually a book that was produced or in part of the Transactions that the Archaeology Society produce.
Surname is SCOTT
Adam Scott who died 26 June 1857 and his death cert states buried in Churchyard of Wilton
His Wife Janet Leithead who died 12 June 1865 at Sunnybank, Wilton
Their Children:
John Scott d 22 May 1835
Helen Scott d 27 Aug 1830
William Scott d 14 Jun either 1827 or 1829

Plus also Adam's parents - John Scott said to have died 7 June 1835 and his wife Isabella Blaikie

I was given information about the dates of the deaths and they are buried in Wilton Old Churchyard, but the person who gave me this information did not site their sources on when or how they obtained this information. These burials are not showing on Scotlandspeople - apart from Adam and his wife Janet of whom I have the certificates, but the OPR's ones are not showing, hence I would like to find out for certain if this information is correct.

Would love to know how to purchase a copy of these MI's or Burial records as well, as usually I tend to find other family members also buried in the same churchyard.
Anything you can do, will be of assistance.

Kind regards
Ailsa
