Hi, thanks for that.  I've still had no luck finding him, but I believe Jane is his mother

Kent / BALK in Hythe
« on: Wednesday 11 January 06 22:40 GMT (UK)  »
Is anyone able to help me with the surname BALK in Hythe, Kent?  I am looking specifically for a Robert BALK born about 1817 in Hythe.  I am trying to identify his parents, who MAY have been Christopher and Jane.  He may also have had sisters Mary Ann, Catherine, Dorothy and Margaret.  In 1851 he was a grocer in Stranton, Durham.  Prior to that he was the Captain of a couple of ships based around the Sunderland, Durham area.  He married his wife, Mary Hannah DOBSON, in Stockton, Durham on 30 November 1846.  Was he still in Kent in 1841?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Yorkshire (North Riding) Lookup Requests / Re: WIFFEN death or marriage
« on: Thursday 22 December 05 19:14 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks Coffdrop, this one looks extremely likely after checking it out on the Durham registrars certificate search as she is listed as both Martha Wright and Martha Wiffen, married to Thomas Alderson.

Great stuff!  Merry Christmas  :)

Yorkshire (North Riding) Lookup Requests / WIFFEN death or marriage
« on: Wednesday 21 December 05 09:32 GMT (UK)  »
Could anyone help me locate the death of Martha WIFFEN please?  In 1901 she was listed as a widow living in Guisborough age 64 but I have searched the death indexes up to 1930 and cannot find her death.  She was born abt 1835 in Leytonstone, Essex, surname unknown, but she married a James WRIGHT, and then a George WIFFEN.  Its possible of course that she may have married again, so a record of a marriage would be most useful.

Many thanks

Andrea

Thank you very much for a super speedy response  :D

Not sure how I mark this as completed now, but I'm sure this is the correct family.

Thanks again

Essex Completed Lookup Requests / 1841 John GILBY in Finchingfield please
« on: Thursday 08 December 05 10:29 GMT (UK)  »
Would someone be kind enough to locate John GILBY (born c1800), his wife Sarah (born c1798) and his daughter Eliza (born c1831)?  John was born in Little Sampford, Sarah and Eliza in Finchingfield.  In 1851 I have them living in Rook Hall where John is described as 'steward? of 120 acres/emp of men'.  There may have been a son John as well, born c1819
Many Thanks

Durham Lookup Requests / Re: CROW and THYNNE in Gateshead - 1841 and 1851

Thanks for this John.  I'm fairly sure this is the correct family, but I think I need to find William's baptism record to be 100% sure.  This gives me an assumption to work on that I can either prove or disprove.
