Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Re: 1891 census lookup fo George Henry Stoneadge
« on: Sunday 14 January 24 19:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Jen

I made contact with someone who supplied more information and photographs outside of Rootschat.

I think my contact tried to contact someone in New Alresford to obtain more information but they did not want to meet up or continue the conversation.  I did get to find out about George Henry and his future in Canada - which entailed 3 West sisters going out there as well but one got diabetes so they returned to New Alresford for a little while and she received treatment in Winchester hospital before her death and then George and Mary returned to Canada.

I know that Frances married married Harry Curtis in 1925 and she died in 1966 in New Alresford aged 78.  The had a son John Curtis in 1930.  Presumably you are descendant?

Completed Census Requests / Re: Genes Reunited member required - COMPLETED

Hi Dawn

It's been a long time since I did any work on my family tree.  I seem to know about Ronald Richard James West (b 1920) and that he married Joyce Eva Jeffrey and they had a child Pauline who married Derek Roddis and they had a daughter Karen.  I'm not sure how I know that? In addition to  Nora (1922) and Patricia(1939) wasn't there another sibling Barbara (b 1936)?

My line of descent is via the Henry lineage.  Henry (1776-1885) >> Henry (1807-1879) >> (Henry) Ellis Slater West (1841-1924) >> Walter Slater West (1883-1957) >> Anthony Slater West (1921-1961)

I've been to St Peters, Parham a few times.  Friend Harrys grave is marked by a book memorial as far as I can remember,  Most of the memorial headstones are for the Charles line of descent.  There are also grave markers over at St Michaels, Amberley but they are older and more faded.

Technical Help / Re: Windows 10 upgrade!
« on: Friday 20 November 15 20:02 GMT (UK)  »
You can still use Internet Explorer 11 instead of Edge if you want.

You have to run it manually though by using File Explorer to navigate to:

C:\Windows\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

Microsoft have often stated they do not want to collect person data but they are being forced to by various government agencies around the world.  I doubt if changing your browser or using various privacy settings is going to make a great deal of difference because governments demand that ISPs provide them with customer browsing data - justifying it by saying they are trying to catch criminals and terrorists etc.

Technical Help / Re: Windows 10 upgrade!
« on: Sunday 15 November 15 09:21 GMT (UK)  »
Yesterday I discovered that my Windows 10 upgrade was not working properly i.e. not receiving automatic updates.  I had to fix this problem by running a DOS screen as the Administrator and running the system file checker command:

sfc /scannow

After that finally completed (30 minutes later) it detected a couple of faults regarding Windows updates.  I also had other problems such as right clicking the clock in the System Tray area did not open the option to change the time/date.  I kept getting error messages about Elements missing.

I then went to Device Manager and went through the process of checking for an update for every single listed device and found about 30% needed updating .  The most important ones were AMD related.

Everything now seems to be working.

Technical Help / Re: Windows 10 arrives July!
« on: Monday 20 July 15 19:39 BST (UK)  »
I'm not sure if this a sign of things to come but last night my weekly Windows system backup which normally takes 15-30 minutes took 9 hours!  My normal My Documents backup took about 10 minutes so I don't think there was general technical problem with backing up data.

I use Windows backup by the way.

I'd be interested to know if anyone else has recently experienced long backup duration similar to mine.

If you right click the Start button and select Control Panel and then Hardware & Sound it should list your printer.  If not, select Add a printer.

Having read a bit more about this Local Account thing - it shouldn't make any difference because you have administrator rights.  For instance when I log in it as a user with administrator privileges and it allows me to download and install updates.

You can check whether your anti--virus software is running by checking the System Tray area in the bottom right hand side of the screen.  There is an up arrow and if click that it should displays some little icons.  Hover over the icons and it will tell you what they are and whether they are active or not.  One of them should be your anti-virus program.

So it looks like you are the Administrator or have Administrator privileges.

I'm not sure why you do not have a user name.

Have you tried Make changes to my account in PC settings
