again there is a family story that they came out in the mid 1840s in a boat called the William Nicholls. Still looking - thank you everyone for your input.

The only information regarding the above family I have is from an ancestry site in Australia.
From them, I found the two Johns, both lived. Older John b: 1846 d: 1920 in Victoria Australia. The younger John, born in Portree : 1849- d: 1931 also In Victoria Australia. They emigrated together and there is a picture of 2 Johns on the wall of a settlers cottage in Portland. (I don't know if they are my ancestors though). It is the younger John who was my grandfathers' father. He married Mary Elizabeth Crowle in Victoria and they had 7 children all born in Victoria Australia. John Murdoch 1883, Jessie Ann 1883, John Crowle 1886, Murdoch Norman 1888, Stanley Gordon 1889, Malcolm Neil 1892, Alex Norman 1897 (my grandfather)
I also have my mothers account that her grandfather, the two brothers came out to Australia together and did very well. Which means that it was no father and son that arrived together.

Hoping there is someone to help me find GG Grandfather Malcolm McLeod (possibly from isle of Skye) (born early 1800 possibly 1809) (could be 1809-1890). He married Ann McLeod (legend is that she came from Isle of Rassay) and they had 7 children: Mary 1829, Catherine 1832, Roderick 1834, Malcolm 1835, John 1846-1920 b: Isle of Rassay, another John 1849-1931 born Portree, Murdo 1850. I think my ancestory goes back through second John 1849, who came to Australia with his brother and married Mary Elizabeth Crowle in Victoria, Australia. I am interested to know if it is possible to go back even further or that I have the right ancestors. What they did as a living etc. before we visit to see where we came from.

My husbands /our four sons are from Richard and Sarah - all the info is absolutely fantastic - so hard to do it from OZ - I guess you are getting this info from the census since it is every four years. Just leaves us wanting to know more about their lives. Births Deaths, marriage, health, occupations etc.

Thank you for your help. You most definitely have the right family. We know that Richard was hurt in a cart accident - not sure if it was fatal but it could have been he died from injuries caused in the incident. We also know that his brother Jesse also emigrated to Melbourne Australia. That Alfred served in Australian forces in WW1 but three brothers served for England and that all survived. We know nothing else about the remaining siblings. We would like to know about any further ancestors like great grandparents if anyone has any information.
