Lancashire / Re: George Drinkwater, brewer, of Liverpool in 1832
« on: Sunday 21 January 24 18:08 GMT (UK)  »
I  did know that the eldest son Samuel born 1790 had survived married Mary Jane Dodson, who was actually his maternal cousin and gone on to produce a family of 15 children, sadly not all lived but they did later live on the IOM  i have a contact who is descended from them and he now lives in New Zealand.

So it is with great interest that i have been reading this thread.                                                                  You would find a connection to the Liverpool merchants connections to the Syers and the Leece family if you traced the Drinkwater family backwards to Peter Drinkwater of Grappenhall died at Masssie Green , i am descended from the eldest son George and the link that leads to the Liverpool merchants and peerage is from Georges younger brother Nathaniel Drinkwater. Hope this has helped and been of interest  kind regards

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Swinton Industrial school Census 1921
« on: Saturday 11 March 23 10:37 GMT (UK)  »
Good morning all,

I wonder if anyone has access to be able to look up the admissions registers for Swinton Industrial school for me please?

My father in law and three brothers were missing from the 1921 census at home with their mother and have trawled the returns to find them with no luck. But a dear friend yesterday looks like she may have found the boys at Swinton Industrial School  _
Eliza* Brown  is listed as female. BUT and a big but is that he was also baptised as Eliza in 1913 when he was was born, (7y 8m)
Richard Brown born  29 January 1912 my FIL (10y 5m)
Albert Brown MAR q 1909  (11 y 8m)
and finally James Brown born in 1916 who was not at the institution

Their father sadly died in 1917 of pneumonia after having been rejected by the army due to epilepsy brought on by a works accident 4 years previously.

Their mother remarried in 1918 to Bertram READ but he is  also not at home in 1921 but visiting someone in Nottingham.
Alice is at  18 Whyatt Street Bradford Manchester. She is a charwoman at the Grey Mare Hotel and listed as married.

The family story (farfetched by any stretch of the imagination) was that the boys ran away from home and became boy soldiers.  One boy stayed in the USA and never married. That part is true because hiss effects were sent to my FIL when he died in the 1960s.

If anybody has access to the admission records to the school and could look to see if the mother of these boys was listed as either Alice Brown or Alice Read and the address of Whyatt Street Bradford. I would be so grateful
kind regards

Hi everyone
I am looking into the family of Henry Pollard 1808-1869 born Church Bank married Margaret Taylor.
From his obituary he was an undertaker and died at Silk Street Salford. My interest is from their son James Pollard born 1839. This is the family of my husband but I am the genealogist in the family. a

Any information would be greatly appreciated

Hello
Sorry to but into this conversation at such a late stage but I have an interest in the 64th Medium Regiment also.

My father in law Richard Brown 7639284 served in this regiment during WW2. I am searching for information about his war service movements along with my husband (his son) and would be grateful to hear anything you could tell me about him and any possible photos.

I hope it isnt too late to get into this conversation and look forward to hearing from you

Kind regards

Wow thank you so much Pat
This is brilliant. So much so that I recognise a few more of the items from my grandfathers house. The clock is definitely the one he had. One of the carving sets, the silver thing with a strange shaped handle I am not sure if it was a cake tray or something similar.

He was apprecticed as a Cooper after he left school this was in 1891 on the census

1901 he was a police constable.
By 1906 when he emigrated to Canada to join the RCMP he had also been serving in the Scots Guards for 4 years.

He lived all over the place in Cananda. Indian Head Regina Sask. Niagara Falls Onrario.

He served in WW1 as part of the Canadian Expeditionary Force.

Took part in the Musical Ride
Was part of the Wembley Exhibition in 1924
was part of  King George V1 Coronation in London 1935
received an MBE for services to the King

on retiring from the Mounties
He became chief of police of Charlottetown PEI and
was buried there at the peoples cemetery when he died in 1964 at 88 years old.

His descendants are still living on PEI to this day.
