I am trying to help a cousin of mine, find her late sisters daughter. The child was born at the Quarry, mother and baby home in Lincoln in 1959.Although the baby was born in Lincoln, the mother was from Doncaster. She died at an early age,and my cousin has always wondered how and where the child was,and would have liked to explain to the child the circumstances of her birth, adoption etc.I know this is a long shot but if anyone was at the quarry during this year, please could they make contact, they may be able to help.

Be very careful with the name Bidmead,as I have found(to my cost) there are so many variants of the name ie; Bidmade Bidmede,Bidmeed,It seems the further back I go,the more obscure the spelling,I suppose, not everyone had perfect spelling years ago, even vicars! I have come across baptism records with one spelling for the child and another for the father.I have been told that the original spelling was Bigamee, and originated in Ireland, but all but a few Irish records were lost in a fire,so my research had to stop there. There are some very old Bidmead recordings in the area of Bisley,Glous.I have yet to tie mine in with these.

Hi,My name is Alison Bidmead,I was born in Doncaster, but my paternal roots are in the Worcestershire/Gloucestershire areas.I am in touch with a gentleman who now lives in Australia, but his wife was a Bidmead before marriage and she came from the London area.I have quite a lot of Bidmead history,if you can give me some specifics,I might have a link for you.Best regards,Alison
