Anglesey / Re: WILLIAMS, JOHN Anglesey

3.5 years after my first post... I have found my John Williams' birth in Llanbadrig 1849, found his parents' marriage also Llanbadrig - they were William Williams and Mary Hughes.  Can't find WW's birth yet - 1841 census says "of this parish" ie Llanbadrig, 1851 says he was born in Landrygarn, 1861 has what looks like Bordwyn, marriage lines say he was from Aberffraw.......

to make matters even more amusing - John Williams born 1849 was son of William Williams and Mary Hughes.  JW married in 1871 - guess what his wife's name was?  Mary Hughes  daughter of John Hughes and Elizabeth Williams - give me another few years and I might work this lot out ;D

Thanks to you all - the links have been really usefull though it would be much simpler if I really could assume "of this parish" meant they were born there.   I now see the answers were there in rootschat all along but doing a search for "of this parish" didn't help before I wrote the query.  Maybe we need a section for "answers to obvious questions" but who would be kind enough to maintain such a sectionh.

I have to say rootschatters are super kind and generous with their time and knowledge - you have all helped me out so often. thanks.

The Common Room / Interpreting "of this parish"

Can anyone give me some advice?  I have copies of parish records for marriages of ancestors where both parties are described as "of this parish".  No names given for fathers so I am looking in same parish records for baptisms around 20+ years before the marriage without success.  What I want to know is does "of this parish" mean literally born in the same parish or can you become "of this parish" by some other means.

erndeb:  There was a William Thomas Davies born flint approx 1866 (not in my family so far as I know) you can find him on 1861 census RG10/5644/57/9 at   58 Sidney St , Flint. 'William Thos' was aged 5 and was the son of William aged 34   a Chemical Labourer born in Mold.  Wife Anne aged 35 born in Flint as were all the brothers and sisters of Williama thomas:Mary Elizabeth, 11; Samuel   3; Ellen   1; Martha Ann   9.  The only way to be sure if this is your William thomas would be to look for his birth in GRO and get a birth cert.

Still happy to check cemetaries etc as offered above but anyone with problems researching in this area I recommend you looks at http://www.skye-kin.co.uk/

I met this lady a few months ago - she has done extensive research on the families in North Skye and may well be able to help.
