Durham / Re: Circus or Theatre Sunderland 1939
« on: Tuesday 20 October 20 17:44 BST (UK)  »
Hello Stan,
Thank you that is the information that I was looking for. Jack Carson and my Great Aunt had a close friendship, I never met her, but her escapades are well known in the family. She was at one time a knife throwers assistant, we have photos of her. Jack Carson was a South African, he had a circus in India at one time, and towards the end of his life he worked for Chipperfields circus. He also appeared in one film as an American Indian. Must have been quite a character.
Many thanks,
Ian.

« on: Tuesday 20 October 20 13:00 BST (UK)  »
I am tracing the history of a cousin of my Fathers.
I find her in 1939 in Sunderland, searching through the 1939 register I also find many Theatrical Artistes Dancers Vocalists.
They were obviously part of a traveling show.
Can anyone please help by pointing me in the right direction to find out who's show this was?
Many Thanks,
Ian Moseley.

Somerset Lookup Requests / Pyne's of Taunton
« on: Tuesday 27 December 16 22:19 GMT (UK)  »
Hello All,
I am helping a friend of mine with his family.
On the 1861 census I have
Robert Slape Pyne with wife Caroline Manley
Children, Robert S., Eleanor, Frederick, William, Margaret, Louisa, Walter, and George.
On the 1871 census there is a further son Charlie.

Searching FreeBMD I cannot find registrations for Margaret, Louisa, Walter, and George.

Robert Slape Pyne is described as a Baker residing at 49 High Street, Parish of St. Mary Magdalene, Taunton.

Does anyone have a connection with this family?

Ian.

I am trying to find out some information about a first cousin of my fathers, she was Cissie Moseley her proper name might have been Catherine May Moseley.

She married Andrew M J Carson he was born in South Africa about 1890 and they supposedly married in Madras India in 1926 ?

Jack owned a Circus in India and reside at Palm Grove Rd Coimbatore

Andrew M J Carson death registered at Kensington London July 1962 aged 72

Died on 9th July 1962, aged 72, at his home 263 Old Brompton Road, London SW5.  His funeral was at Golders Green Crematorium, on 13th July

Andrew Carson was known as Jack Carson and for the later years of his life was Chief Eagle Eye with Chipperfields Circus.

I am trying to find out more information about Jack at his address in London and also if there are any records for MI's for Golders Green Crematorium or any other records, maybe newspaper records?

Regards,
Ian.

Breconshire / Re: Methodist burial in Hay-on-Wye
« on: Sunday 24 June 07 22:56 BST (UK)  »
I am just reading some of the old posts, and as I live in Hay-on-Wye and have done for the last 42 years I should know something about the area. All of Hay-on-Wye is in Wales the old county of Brecknock, now part of Powys. The part of Hay that causes the confusion is Cusop which is across the border and is in Herefordshire.

The parish church has a graveyard, it appears to be full, but the Hay cemetery is on the Brecon Road, and next time I go for a walk up there will have a look for you, it is only 100 yards from my house.

Regards,
Ian.
