That would be brilliant please, thank you very much! I'll PM you an email address.

Lancashire / St. Joseph's Cemetery Moston (Manchester) Photo Request
« on: Tuesday 13 February 18 19:37 GMT (UK)  »
I live in northern Scotland but am very keen to see a photograph of my Gt Gt Grandfather's grave at St. Joseph's Cemetery Moston (Manchester). If someone in the area or who is visiting perhaps would be kind enough to take a photo I would be very grateful.

His name was Charles Dillon (1858-1933) and his grave is "St Teresa 1214".

Apologies for the slow reply but thank you very much for all the advice, I will try the DIY approach since although warped the problem is not so severe that I feel I could justify paying a professional.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Flattening a warped hard backed photo?

I have an old hard backed photo from circa 1914 which has warped quite badly and woul;d be interested to get some tips on how to flatten it. I am inclined to use some heavy books on top but am worried that this might just crack or break to hard backing?

Hi where is the Robert Dillon you are looking for from. My grandfather was Robert Dillon as was his grandfather.. Both from Donegal ...

Hi Dillcom,

Very interesting to hear from you, my Dillons lived in Manchester from the 1820s/30s but prior to that lived in Ireland, probably the Mayo/Galway area although I'm not 100% certain of that.

Were your Dillons in Manchester?

The Lighter Side / Re: DNA testing for family history - a warning
« on: Tuesday 29 August 17 23:23 BST (UK)  »
One thing that I would stress is that many, if not most, DNA tests for family history research do not reveal or contain medical information. In particular, the Y-DNA testing used for family history is not going to reveal medical information. Also, FTDNA, one of the main autosomal DNA testers deliberately avoid testing the parts of DNA relating to key medical information.

I don't mean to dispute what the original poster said, just to point out that many, possibly the majority of family history DNA tests do not test sections of DNA relating to key medical information.

I have taken both autosomal and Y-DNA tests and found it to be very interesting and have made genuine connections and found previously unknown links which have helped to progress my research back further.

Thanks, ChristineM and Deer243.

If anyone can confirm these transfers are still available it would be appreciated as I can pass the information on to someone else.

Off the top of my head I think that FTDNA still accept transfered results from the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation. I'd get in touch with FTDNA and see what they say.

The Common Room / Re: Help Finding Francis Dillon

Thank you Heywood and Mirl that is a great find which I am quite confident is right. A year or two ago a relative mentioned that my Grandfather had a cousin with the same forename as the daughter born to the Dillon/Ball pairing and mentioned that she was a GP in Manchester. At the time I couldn't work out where this person would fit in on the tree but fortunately made a note of it. I searched the full name of this daughter and she seems to have graduated from Manchester University just before her marriage with what seems to have been a medical degree.

Mirl, could you maybe PM me the info on the child born to the 1959 marriage please, I've now seen the 1959 marriage index but can't find the right birth index.
