Family History Beginners Board / the West family of Fivehead Somerset

Dear Roots chatters, Here are some more details on the West Family mentioned in my last post. Sgt James West 1825-1885 .settled in Muskoka Canada, Mary Ann Egginton  nee West 1827-1921 was in New Zealand ,John West 1828-1906 settled down in Fivehead Eng., Robert West 1830-1902 settled in Simcoe Canada. Marriages : Robert West to Dinah Kent 1860 at the British barracks in Quebec city, Quebec, James West to Mary Vinson  1858 Cornwall England, John West to Elena Hooper 1881  in Fivehead ,  Eng. , Mary Ann West to William Egginton 1863 in Motueka ,New Zealand. As Mary Ann was leaving her native England as a servant to a Mrs. Stevens who is emigrating to  New Zealand ;she asks her 3 brothers in a letter to write  to her and each other and their mother Mary in Jersey.Thanks for your interest.

Hi Carole W ,  Thanks for your response to my last post.  Sorry for the lack of clarity on my last post but here are some clues. to help you out.  Robert West was enlisted in the British army 38th foot regiment from 1851 t.1861and  he also fought in the  Crimean war in 1854 and 1855. His brother James West was also enlisted in the British army from 1847 to 1868. Maryann their sister lived in New Zealand from 1861 to1921.Any information on Robert  or James activity in the army would be appreciated. Thank you for your interest.

James ,John, Robert and Maryann West all wrote letters back and forth to each other. Does any body still have any of the letters that they wrote to each other .  Both Robert and James were in the British army. Does any one know  what battles they fought in.
