Alas Devonshire Cottages are no more, and part of their location is now occupied by a land-fill site. If you look on Google Maps for Barrow Hill, you can see where they were off Cavendish Pl.

I live three miles from Barrow Hill, and worked even closer, but hadn't realised they had gone!

Hi Wilf,

There is no pub on Durrant Road now, and I can't remember there having been one in the past forty years.

There's certainly no housing left on Durrant Road.
There's a new Court House, some car parks and office buildings.

Thanks Sunflower,

I think that in 1851 he was either out of the county, or evaded the census :-\
Thanks again for you help.
Could I be cheeky and ask for a lookup of a Samuel Sims on the 1851 index, who would have been 2 or 3, he was born near Crich.

Cheers

Nick

Hi,

Would anybody be able to lookup Thomas Priest (or Preece) born abt 1825 in Shropshire. I believe he will have daughters Mary aged 4  and Elizabeth aged 1.

Thanks

Nick

Thanks for the welcome.

Samuel was in Ashover in the 1861 census, and Crich in 1841, and was born in Lea.
