There was an estate called Wicksted Hall in the village of Wirswall, which is adjoining Marbury. The house is still standing but is now known as Wicksted Old Hall.
There is a house nearby now called Wicksted Hall, but was previously called Belvidere, the name changes were in the early 1900s.
As the name Wickstead was spelt Wicksted in the early days, I suspect this house was connected to the Wickstead family.

I have been researching my family from Marbury and also found very few entries in the 1640s. As this is the period of the Civil War I suspect this is the reason for this and not that they have not yet been transcribed.
This part of Cheshire was very much involved in the fighting - the Seige and Battle of Nantwich 1643/1644 and the Seige of Chester 1645/1646. It must have been a harrowing time for the residents of Cheshire.
Could this be the reason for your missing baptisms?
You mention a marriage of James Hallmark to Margaret Wickstead - I am a descendant of the Wicksteads of Marbury!
I am local and know Marbury well, and although it is not far from Whitchurch it is nearer the village of Wrenbury, is it possible that your relatives used Wrenbury church?

Another one from my family, my great granddad's brother in August 1867:
"George Brewer, aged nine years, on Monday last was near a thrashing machine at work at Butterdon Farm, when both his legs were cut in the machine. The left leg, which was much injured, had to be amputated, and the right leg, which was broken, was set by Dr. Hingston. The boy, however, died on Wednesday".

This is from my boyfriend's family, the information was recorded in the church register:
“George Harding, 17, son of Eli and Sarah Harding accidentally killed by his head being jammed between the wheel of a cart, which he was driving, and a gate post.” Date 1820.
Poor George.

A friend of mine brought her 'mouse scanner' to show me. I was very impressed, you just scan by moving the mouse over whatever image you need. She got it from Ideal World, but I think you would be able to get them elsewhere. It would be very useful for scanning images which can't be moved etc., just scan in situ.

I now have a scan of the back of the photos above. They are postcard type photos. The top one has the year 1930 stamped on it and is of Herbert above. The bottom one is the back of the original photo I first enquired about. It does look a lot older that the 1930 one, so could it fit in with James, born 1865 and died 1911.
Any suggestions gratefully received. Thank you for any help.

Would these photos help? I know who the young man on the right is, Herbert, he was born in 1909.
The one on the left - the original picture I posted - is either his father or his brother.
The lady is Herbert's mother and either mother or wife of the original picture. Her picture was taken in 1929 and I would think in the same studio as the one of Herbert (same background).
The more I look at these pictures I think the young men were brothers as all three seem to have the same nose. What do you think?
