Hi Lisa

You are correct in thinking that there is no Blackress Road in Dundee, it is Blackness Road.

On the link of photos you should find Brown Street in the Blackness Road area.  Perhaps Brown's Buildings were near here!

Hi

Blackscroft (there is no 'Street' attached to the name), is more or less a traffic thoroughfare nowadays.  At the lower end of the area, the Blackscroft library building is still in situ - it became a bar/disco for a while a number of years ago but is now derelict.

At the top end of the area was a huge jute mill called Halleys.  Now an empty shell and has been for many years. However, it seems there are current plans to turn this old jute mill into flats, 175 of them altogether:

The Lighter Side / Re: Sainsbury's Christmas Ad

Very poignant and not in your face, only very subtle advertising, and Sainsbury's is raising funds for the Royal British Legion:

"Sainsbury's is celebrating 20 years of supporting The Royal British Legion by doing more than ever to raise funds during this year's Poppy Appeal.

The retailer hopes to surpass last year's fundraising total of £4.5 million by increasing its support across merchandise, in-store donation, and for the first time ever, a TV advert with striking animations to drive donations and raise awareness of the national cause."

World War One / Re: Decipher and Understanding Army Discharge of TS-10059 DRV

It looks like the start of the Surname 'Hugh/es' - but you have mention his surname is Edward!

I can make out that his Date of Discharge is 27/9/1919, and, he’ll receive a pension of 8/- (8 shillings) a week, commencing from the 28/9/1919.

The writing is very 'rubbed' plus it looks like the scan hasn’t covered the whole page, thus deciphering is very limiting!

He could have attended Cowgate Primary School which would be about the nearest one to Charles Street.

There's 4 pages plus soldiers called  C J Brown on ancestry, but to hopefully help you along I think the top 2 on the list below might possibly be the most obvious,, as they have the middle name of 'James' mentioned:

To post a photo you would need to scan the photo through your printer onto your computer.

Or, with a digital camera, take a fresh photos of your old ones, then insert the SD from your camera into computer or laptop.

Then once on your computer you can edit, crop the image, etc ready for posting here.
