Thank you Darren and Ken, I think your right it does look like Horses and thank you for the link, a very interesting site with lots of interesting information,  I've looked at the National Archives but unfortunately I can not find any reference to my ancestor, but I now have more back ground information on his life before marriage.  Thank you.

Hello,  I have just come across my Gr Grandfather in the 1911 census, his name was Arthur Bernard Roberts born 1890 Deptford London,  in the Rank column he's down as a Driver, he's single and under Unit or Army Service, its got ASignal CoRE, and his Trade or Occupation was, Care of Houses, he was stationed at, Gibraltar Barracks, Stanhope Lines, Aldershot.  Ive no knowledge of Military history and not sure what care of houses is and what does ASignal CoRE mean ? could it be  Army Signal Corp ?  Thank you for any advice/help given.

I did enjoy the caves, it was a surprise, we were driving along to find Chapel le Dale and all of the sudden we saw this sign and then pulled in, it should have taken about 80 minutes for us to get about but it took longer as we had to keep stopping to allow people to pass us, it was quite busy down there, I took loads of photos some good some quite blurry, the guide told us about a boy getting stuck and dying there, I couldn't do caving or pot holing, not my scene, but standing upright walking, I do enjoy, lol.

My ancestor and the family were lucky, when I got up there I wondered why they had moved away ( To Leicestershire later on to South Wales ) as the area is so beautiful, but if there was an outbreak of illness then maybe that was the reason, I always thought it was work, maybe it was but now that gives another reason why they could have moved,  Not sure when they moved away from the area but in 1881 they were living  in Leicestershire.

I do plan on going back up there again, this time to look at the Viaduct and to visit some other places, time past so quickly.  Thank you also for replying.

Thank you for replying back to my query, I have just visited Chapel le Dale and saw the graves and a plague commemorating the dead, but unfortunately I didnt have enough time to have a good look round because I got side tracked going down the White Scar Caves before we got to the Church, :)  would you happen to know where I can find information about the temporary sites please ? Thank you once again  P.S. There was a wonderful smell of Garlic where we packed the car by the Church.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Bleamoor Tunnel

Hello,  Could someone please help me with some information please.  My ancestor came up from Dorset to work as a Miner and a railway worker in and around Settle,  he married Elizabeth Ellison in 1873 at Chapel le Dale and was living at Blea moor Tunnel at the time of marriage, I've roughly read up on this place on wikipedia and it describes a tunnel that was built there, was Blea Moor Tunnel also a village or just the Tunnel ? My ancestors name at the time of marriage was Arthur Needham, but thats not his surname, he was born Arthur William Bridle but along his life his surname changed and also the spellings, the family is now going by Maiden but it was also known as Maden too. Thank you for any help or advice given.

I haven't done this family tree in ages so what a lovely surprise to see this message this morning,  I have never been able to find Mary's surname so to see it as Wood is indeed a surprise ( i'm married to a Wood now ) you have renewed my interest on this side of the family,  I did hit a brick wall that made me loose interest for a while and so I concentrated on the other parts of my tree.  I wondered where the daughter Jane came in,  I found reference to her only once and could never find anything else.  I'm of to work soon so tomorrow on my day off I will take a deeper look into this.  Thank you so much for posting this I am so grateful thank you.

I've had a quick look and found a marriage for her and Peter in Brighton,  but I havent found one for Richard as yet.

Devon Lookup Requests / Richard THORNE & Mary GILL Abt 1762 Marriage look up please.
« on: Saturday 02 January 10 17:36 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

Could someone be so kind to do me a look up if you happen to be popping into Highbray,  please.  My ancestors were born about 1740 and married about 1762,  Richard may have been a farmer as his son John use to be a Farmer at East & West Yard Highbray.    Richard & Gill had at least 6 children,  Joan, Mary, John, Richard, Jacob and William.  I've searched what I can on the internet but with no luck.   Thank you for any assistance with this branch.  Happy New Year.
