MR. CHARLES EVANS, WHO DIED JANUARY 21, 1895, WAS BORN IN WALES IN 1842 AND
IN EARLY INFANCY EMIGRATED WITH HIS PARENTS TO AMERICA AND SETTLED IN
GRANVILLE. OHIO, WHERE HE SPENT HIS BOYHOOD DAYS. HE BECAME A CITIZEN OF
URBANA IN 1861. HE WAS MARRIED TO ELIZABETH MYERS, A NATIVE OF CINCINNATI IN
1868, REV. MR. TUTTLE, OF THE FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH, OF URBANA, BEING THE
OFFICIATING MINISTER. HE REMOVED TO RUSHVLLLE, IND., IN 1871, WHERE THREE

LINK IN THE FAMILY CHAIN, AND NO SACRIFICE BEING TOO GREAT TO MAKE ONE FOR THE
OTHER, THAT BEING ESPECIALLY TRUE OF THE KIND HUSBAND AND FATHER, IT IS HARD TO
REALIZE HOW DEEPLY THE BEREAVED ONES MUST FEEL THEIR LOSS. BEING A GENTLEMAN
OF THE PUREST HABITS AND DOING UNTO ALL MEN AS HE WOULD WISH TO BE DONE BY,
OUR LOSS WILL BE REGRETTED BY ALL WHO KNEW HIM. THESE WORDS OF THE POET ARE
HIS FITTING EPITAPH: "AN HONEST MAN IS THE NOBLEST OF GOD."

Children - not sure which were born in Wales / Canada / Ohio

Sally Evans other ??
The obit above indicates 5 siblings and no mention of his father

John Evans is the son who lived in Granville (per the obit) and was a blacksmith and married to Cora and had a daughter Elizabeth.

Charles Evan Evans and Elizabeth Evans (Myers) also had a son John David Evans who moved from Urbana and lived in Granville - "Johnny" celebrated his 21st birthday in Granville (form an announcement in the Granville times)

That is an interesting record and does not present the death record that it indicates it is linked to.

So I'm not sure what that record is.  I have inquired to the Champaign county Library that holds the microfiche for a copy and I have requested any internment, plot or other records for Oakdale cemetery.

That is the correct link to the gravestone.

So while I am 99% sure that the record you found is wrong, I have reached out to verify that.  As soon as I find out, I will be back !

I know because gen 5 to current is known family.

Yes Generation-5 gg-grandfather Charles Evan or Evan Charles was born in 1842 in Wales - albeit on the ship in the port as it was readying its leave from Aberaeron to Canada. No record of his birth exists in Wales, since it was likely recorded when the ship arrived in Canadian port. Technically, yes in Wales and Technically yes in Canada. That's why different records show either.

I am super confident with a great deal of primary documentation that the below from Great-Great-Grandfather Charles Evan Evans Married Elizabeth Meyers to current is correct - except for his birth location.

Makes sense. All replies lin the other post from here on out.

I saw that record as well. Not the right one.

Unfortunately, I have mined familysearch and ancestry.com for all I can. That is why I am reaching into Felinfach.

Looking for a detail or two form Church Records, something that I can pick up with and run.

No apologies necessary.   (BTW the photos on find-a-grave are mine !)

We are dialed in with tons of info back to Charles Evan Evans and Elizabeth.

It's his parents and farther back that we are stymied.

Thanks for the help so far !

I sent an email to Priest in charge (Rev. Hill) as the starting to point to hopefully locate some details to leverage in other research.

Just don't have much to go on.
  • Arrived in Canada 1842
  • Don't have anything on Charles Evan Evans (3g grandfather) and Mary Thomas
  • Pickup with Charles Evan Evans (2g grandfather) in Ohio around 1860
  • Documentation for marriage of Charles Evan Evans and Elizabeth Meyers in 1868 (Urbana, Ohio)

The challenges !!

The 1842 birth may not be an actual Welsh birth since it most likely was recorded when the ship landed in Canada.

Our records show birth locations for both Canada and Wales - without any primary or secondary documentation supporting either other than his gravestone
