Hi Penny
Thanks for the reply. Great to hear from you. Yes, some of my siblings and I did the DNA test and got roughly the same percentage of Asian ethnicity. It indeed comes from your Musha’s (Olga’s) paternal grandmother, namely Athia Tiga (possibly Oesman). Remember, Olga’s younger sister - Doris Eugenie (Lambert) Barker is my grandmother (through my mother Marie Thérèse (Barker) Sweeney.

My result for that part of the ethnicity was:
Chinese & Vietnamese 4.2%
(But also Mesoamerican & Andean 1.2%).

One of my siblings had:
Central Asian 2.9%
Chinese & Vietnamese 2.0%

Another sibling had:
Filipino, Indonesian & Malay 3.2%
Central Asian 2.9%
South Asian 1.0%.

All the above were with MyHeritage.
What company did you use?
(I will try Ancestry as well).

Do you have a family tree on MyHeritage?

Kind regards
Paul

Hi all
Are you still reviewing this thread / conversation?

Penny do you have any feedback on what I last sent you?

Also does anyone have any information about finding out the nationality & ethnicity of Athia Tiga (c.1841 - 18 Apr 1930 Singalore), who married Jean Rudolph Lambert in Singapore c.1863?

Thanks
Paul

Hi Penny Sinclair

I have inserted some comments into yours, and added my own, as follows:

I'm new to this web site.
My mother was Maria Johanna Modoo. Born 11 March, 1934 Purwokerto, Java. Died 22 October, 2015, Dimbula FNQ, Australia.

PS: Dimbulah, Queensland.

She was one of the younger daughters of Lambertus Martinus Lucus Modoo (Born 29-10-1894 Holland. Died 4-7-1968, Melbourne, Australia) and Olga Patricia Mascot (nee Lambert) Modoo.

PS: They married on 14 Feb 1920 at The Church of the Birth of Our Lady, Surabaya, East Java.
Lambertus Martinus Lucas – b. Haarlem, Netherland – as per Church Register Book Surabaya BMV - 1919 - No. 6224.
Olga Patricia Mascoth

"Musha" as she was affectionately known as by her grandchildren was born in Singapore: 10 December, 1896.  She died on Feburary 6th, 1982 in Melbourne, Australia. Her and Opa were married in Surabaya, Indonesia, on 14 February 1920.
After the war, the family briefly went to London ,England as their eldest son Lambertus (Bert) Modoo married Joan Walton. That was how my Mum (Maria, affectionately known as Marika) met my Dad Henry Edward Sinclair.

PS: Was his nickname “Larrie”?

They emigrated to New Zealand. The Modoo clan to Melbourn,e Australia. I have traced the Modoo line back to 1731 in Holland. I haven't woked out how Musha (Olga Mascot Lambert) fits into this tree. But a previous commentor talks about visiting Aunty Olga in Melbourne.

PS: I knew Aunty Olga when I was a child. Olga was my grandaunt (or more commonly termed great aunt) – the eldest sister of my grandmother, Doris Eugenie (Lambert) Barker. [Doris' eldest child was my mother Marie Therese (Barker) Sweeney.] Their parents were:
Rudolph Edward Matthew Lambert (b. Singapore on 10 Feb 1873 – d. 3 Dec 1932 in Malang, but buried Surabaya on 4 Dec 1932) and
Sylvia Eugenie “Goldie” (Potter) Lambert (b. Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on 5 Nov 1874 – d. Surabaya, East Java on 26 May 1927. Goldie was of Irish heritage.
Both are buried in Kembang Kuning cemetery (general section – i.e. pre-War).

The parents of Rudolph Edward Matthew Lambert were:

Jean Rudolph Lambert
(b. Berlin on 12 Feb 1836 – d. Singapore on 30 Sep 1884. He was baptised on 6 Mar 1836 in the French Church of Friedrichstadt" (French: Temple de la Friedrichstadt, German: Französische Friedrichstadtkirche) located in Berlin on the Gendarmenmarkt. The Lambert family were originally French Huguenots and their ancestors fled France for Germany in the early 1700s, about 4 generations before the birth of Jean Rudolph Lambert.
Upon his death, the Straits Times Weekly Issue (2 October 1884, p. 1) commented:
"Singapore is indebted to the Lambert brothers ... for great improvements in carriage building, both in construction and in the excellence of material", and that Lambert "will be long remembered as a fine example of a steady, industrious, and successful colonist, and a genial and public spirited citizen".

And

Athia Tiga (Oesman) Lambert (b. circa 1841 – d. 18 Apr 1930 “at her residence, 8 Orchard Road, Singapore”.
The Straits Times, 21 April 1930, Page 4 notices record as follows:
"DEATH LAMBERT- At her residence. 8, Orchard Road, Singapore, on Good Friday, April 18, 1930, Athea, widow of the late Mr. Jean Rudolph Lambert, of Singapore, aged 89. Deeply regretted".

Athia Tiga Oesman is the main objective of my research. I assume she was Malay but I cannot prove it. I would love to have any further information about her.

Many thanks
Paul Sweeney

Dear Terri
We need to talk because I have quite a bit of information for you about our family, and some questions for you too!

Drop me a line please at
(*)

My mother Molly (Barker) Sweeney visited Java in 1939 as a 19 year old with her mother Doris Eugenie (Lambert) Barker in order to see all the cousins in the Dutch East Indies. She has some fabulous photos. One photo she describes as showing "Uncle Bert [Modoo], Aunty Olga [(Lambert) Modoo], AND Aunty Vera and (child) David".

I am sure the "Vera" is you grand-mother Vera Sigrid (Roo van Raadshoven) Lambert.

I wonder if you father is David. If not maybe David is aunty Olga's son. I remember Aunty olga when i was a kid in Melbourne.

This is all really amazing. i'm loving it!

Hope to be in touch soon.
Cheers
Paul

Hi all

I am also a member of this large family, and doing some research of my own.
So Sylvia "Goldie" Eugenie (Potter) LAMBERT and Rudolf Edward Matthew LAMBERT (REML) had numerous children (12?) and one of the eldest was my grandmother Doris Eugenie (Lambert) BARKER (b.1899 d.1994). Doris and HR Barker had 7 children and my mother Marie Therese was the eldest (b.1919 Surabaya d. 2015). I am her youngest (of 8).

So my grandmother Doris, Jean Eric Rudolf LAMBERT (JERL), Roy, Les and others were siblings.

I was wondering if you had any information about Eugene LAMBERT, brother of REML.
He apparently brought Singer sewing machines to Asia.

He lived in Singapore too at the same time that REML was an insurance broker, and when Jean William Ernest LAMBERT was running the carriage company that their father Jean Rudolph LAMBERT (JRS) started.

Also, do you have anything linking the photographer Gustav Rishard LAMBERT to JRS?

Finally, do you have any photos or more information about Athea Tiga Oesman, who is the reason for me getting into this project in the first place. For me she is the most interesting element in all this.

Many thanks
Paul
