Thank you for this image - so excited to see it.

I have a bag of miscellaneous photos that I will search through to see if I can find anything related to South Notts and/or GG Weaving.

Could I be cheeky and ask for a photo of the whole sword?  I'd love to share this with other family members.

Dear Shush

Sorry for my slow reply - I've only just noticed your comment.  I'm no expert on the South Notts Hussars, my interest is simply that George G Weaving was my great uncle and I was interested in what he did in the war.

I know lots about the rest of the Weaving family!

What's your interest?

with best wishes

World War One / Re: Not sure who this is!

Hello Everyone,

I had no idea that this picture would generate such an energetic response!  Thank you for all the knowledge, ideas and suggestions.

I had suspected that this might be either one of two brothers:

Philip Joseph LOCKE, born 1879 in Leamington Spa, or
Victor Franklin LOCKE, born 1885 in Leamington Spa.

Both brothers emigrated to Canada in 1908 - so yes, definitely colonial links.  They lived in British Columbia - so the information already supplied is bang on.

I did not find them listed in the 30th Infantry Battalion Nominal Roll.

Both were active in the Warwickshire Regiment before they left for Canada, and I think that Philip took part in the Boer War.  Philip is recorded as having been captured in WW1 and spent several years as a POW.

I'm amazed that you've identified so much from the photo.  I attach the best close up of the cap badge that I can manage - I don't think that it's the same as the images that have already been kindly attached.

FYI (as I know that you're a bunch who likes these details), Philip's only child Richard P LOCKE, was a bomber pilot in WW2 and was lost after coming down in the North Sea after a bombing raid over Germany.

again, many thanks for your interest.

Dear Rootschatters

I thought that I knew who this handsome chap was, but now I'm not so sure as the insignia on his hat doesn't seem to tie up with what I thought.

Royal Warwickshire Regiment?

Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

Technical Help / Re: HP Printers stop working after using non HP ink!
« on: Thursday 18 May 23 11:20 BST (UK)  »
So glad that I changed my long-term habit of having HP printers last year when I was thoroughly fed up of the overcomplications that they'd added to basic printers.

Swapped to an Epson ecotank which is a more expensive printer but it's a revolution in ink!  No cartridges!  Very economical ink usage - I still haven't re-filled it.

Print quality is Ok but not brilliant, and its a bit slow but otherwise very cheap to run!

Berkshire Lookup Requests / Re: Rebeecca Lovege [or Lovedge]

May be completely unrelated but there's a Rebecca Lovedge baptised 21/7/1672 at St Giles, Cripplegate, London, listed on Ancestry.

Father Will, and mother Rebecca.

The original is difficult to read so I'm trusting the transcription.
