Thank you for these.
We are not sure when Thos Snr died, but family believe it around around 1911/12; we don't know if it was in Sussex, Essex or neither, but the family is said to relocate to Gt Wakering at this time.

I made the same connection for Lily's death but haven't ordered that cert yet. I have ordered the marriage cert for Thos Jr and Agnes Edkins (who is another mystery!) and am waiting for that to arrive shortly.

Thanks for the find on the absent voter list; I didn't know about that index. This is a  match as he served as a driver in Royal Army Service Corps, DM2/208687, then EMT/46268 and he lived in the High St. We have his medal record: https://www.ancestry.co.uk/interactive/1262/30850_A000429-01472/3401814?backurl=https://www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/person/tree/151212426/person/202005107162/facts but it doesn't tell us much new. Enquiries are underway with MoD as we can't find anything else online.

No luck so far with a Sussex birth; Chichester, Brighton and Shoreham have been mentioned, but perhaps as you say I need access to parish records.

Thank you, these are all interesting possibilities for me to look into.

Yes, I suspect the marriage did not occur. All the family know is that another son died, they don't know the name or year, but he may be in the Gt Wakering churchyard.

Hi
Any help much appreciated in my search for Lily Webb's marriage to Thomas Dawson around 1896. They had two sons: Thomas survived, another died aged around 18 months. Thomas Jnr is believed to come from Sussex, around Shoreham or Brighton, birth date 12 Aug 1898, died 1990 Great Wakerling. Family say he was known as Jack, possibly his middle name, or maybe John.

In 1901 Lily of Canewdon, Thomas and John, born Brighton 1899, are in Tooting and in 1911 Lily of Malden and Jack, born 1899 Brighton, are in North Leyton without Thomas, though she is marked married not widowed.

I have Lily with parents John and Maria Webb in Great Wakering, Essex in 1881 and 1891. I am also drawing a blank on Thomas parentage and birthplace. I am not sure if the marriage took place in Essex or Sussex but they lived at 213 High Street, Gt Wakerling until their deaths.

Many thanks in advance.

Actually this may not be so inconsistent.  From 1640 to 1864, Hamburg's western borough, Altona was under the administration of the Danish monarchy. The word Holland has been added to the census in a different hand from the rest of the page at some later stage.

Apologies Rosie. I should have linked as you say.

Yes, very contradictory person. Also bankrupt and living in France c. 1863 and possibly bigamous marriage!
